Hashtags generally serve as a way to start a buzz, a way to stay connected, and a way to be informed. Growing up, social media played an important role in how I learned about what's happening now, especially because I live on an island in the middle of the pacific ocean. These connections allowed me to gain an evolving perspective on issues that I've become aware of through the use of the media and the hashtags that come along with them. As a native Hawaiian, it is important for me to become more informed so I can use them to gain an opinion that can make a difference. Hashtags have kept me informed about the world outside of Maui, but it also allowed me to see the importance of being educated on these issues. Being connected has shaped who I am today, and served as a "huliau" (turning point) that gave me reason for my evolving opinions. It is because of this reason that I would title my story #Change.
