HI everyone, I need help on my argumentation essay. Here is the topic: "Should gay marriage be legalized ?" Feel free to jot down your ideal and emotions on my essay. If you come up some argues against my points, you can tell me to fix my essay. Just treat like your essay.

When I was 8th grade year in Sunnybrook Middle School, I was invited to a gay marriage of John and David. On May 1st, 2008, they began their wedding in the backyard of my family in the afternoon. They held hands, hugged, and kissed each other with tearful eyes during the whole time of their wedding. At ten o clock, I noticed parents of John and David who watched their wedding angrily in my Aunt Thai's house. They suddenly came over to my backyard, separated their hands, and yelled at their sons for their immoral marriage. After two month, John's family moved to Chicago so John and David could not see each other. Living in a harsh environment of Chicago, John quickly adapted to the fast pace of life and dated a girl name Marie. Now, I look back at John's life. I have realized that their parents are totally correct for preventing gay marriage. Gay marriage should not be legalized because gay marriage increases the chance of getting diseases, affects the children on academic performance and personalities, and destroys the meaning of family.

First of all, gay marriage increases the chance of getting diseases. Homosexual activities are the major causes of sexual transmission diseases such as HIV and AIDS, gonorrhea, hepatitis types B and C, and syphilis. According to a study done by Center for Disease Control in 1998, 54 percent of AIDS cases in America are homosexual men and 90 percent of HIV cases are gay. Moreover, in the article "Gay Culture Weigh Sense and Sexuality" written by Sheryl Gay Stolberg in 1997 of New York Times, young men have 50 percent chance of getting HIV by middle ages.

In addition to increase the chance of getting diseases, gay marriage affects the children on academic performance and personalities. Children living in homosexual family have lower academic performance than heterosexual family. In a study done by Rosenfeld, 9.5 percent of children raised in homosexual families have to repeat a grade while there are 7 percent of children raised in heterosexual families repeat a grade. Moreover, gay marriages affect the personalities of children. Researcher believes that children need both men and women to raise their talents instead of same sex parents. In the article Children Need a Mom and a Dad from orthodoxytoday.org, women support the physical and emotion needs of children while men encourage children to be independence and competitive. If a child lives in gay families, he or she will not find much love from mother. On the other hand, if a child lives in lesbian families, he or she will not find traits of competitive from father.

Finally, and most important, gay marriage destroys the meaning of family. According to the Webster dictionary, family can be explained in term of relationship duration and commitment. First, homosexual relationships just only last couple months rather than long term relationships of heterosexual marriage. In the article The Sexual Organization of the City written by sociologist Edward Laumann, he says that a normal gay relationship just only lasts six months and there are few couples which last more than two years. In another article Male and Female Homosexuality, Saghir and Robins conclude the average homosexual relationships usually last from two to three years. In addition to relationship duration, homosexual relationships are not faithful to each other's. Researchers point out that an average gay usually has a lot of partners in their lifetime. A study done by Bell and Weinberg shows that 43 percent of white gays had sex with 500 partners, and 28 percent of white gays slept with thousand partners.

Although there are many people say that banning gay marriage is an act of discrimination against homosexual couples, gay marriage should not be legalized because it destroys the meaning of family, affects the children on academic performance and personalities, and increases the chance of getting diseases. If people carefully consider many sexual transmission diseases which primarily affect the homosexual lifestyles, perhaps we will not lose some talented gays or lesbians. Since the homosexual activities are the major causes of death in homosexual couples, people should not allow gay marriage to be legalized.

I used to be closed-minded about gays. But after I realized that there are really, really important things as corruption in our government, I saw we are all in the same boat. No matter your sexual orientation, all that matter is that we have to be united to contruct a better world. It is not sexual orientation what make a good o bad person but the ideas. All depends on education, please take it in consideration, as well as heterosexual couples can be good parents there are heterosexual couples than are bad parents, some even rape their daugthers. The sexual orientation is not the issue to address, it is the culture as whole. Gay parents can be very supportive parents I guess, since they are not able to conceive naturally I think they would really appreciate to have a children and would give anything to rase him/her well (there are also exeptions).

I am straigth (and I really like girls more than you can't imagine) but for me is OK that gays marry or do whatever they want since they are not hurting or annoying anyone else.

Well,I am of the view that there should be freedom and liberty for everybody. It will be like depriving people from their rights if we ban or try to ban gay marriages on the ground that its immoral or anything.I personally feel that it will give a positive edge to one's personality if he gets the man of his choice so gay marriage should be legalized.
You're a good writer. Kudos. However, your major issue with this paper is that many of your assertions are merely unsubstantiated claims. You fail to provide a sufficient amount of evidence to convince your readers. Be sure to critically analyze your sources and convey your findings to the reader in a succinct but informative manner. I look forward to reading your next draft.

At ten o clock, I noticed the parents of John and David who watched their wedding angrily in my Aunt Thai's house. They suddenly came over to my backyard, separated their hands, and yelled at their sons for their immoral marriage. After two months, John's family moved to Chicago so that John and David could not see each other. Living in a the harsh environment of Chicago, John quickly adapted acclimated to the a fast pace of life and started dateding a girl name Marie. Now, I look back at John's life. [Awkward transition.] I have realized that their parents are were totally correct right for preventing gay protesting against their marriage. [What specific point in time made you change your perceptions of gay marriage? What were your original perceptions? You never mentioned this.] Gay marriage should not be legalized because gay marriage increases the chance of getting contracting diseases, affects the childrens' on academic performance and personalities negatively, and destroys the meaning of family. [This thesis is flawed. "Destroys the meaning of family" is the only one you somewhat substantiated in this paragraph. Did the gay couple ever contract a disease? Did they have children whose academic performance suffered as a result of their civil union? Overall, this paragraph lacks cohesion.]

First of all, gay marriage increases the chance of getting diseases. Homosexual activities are the major causes of sexually transmission transmitted diseases such as HIV and AIDS, gonorrhea, hepatitis types B and C, and syphilis. [In this paragraph, you provided only evidence to support AIDS. What about HIV, gonorrhea, etc.?] According to a study done by Center for Disease Control in 1998 [Use statistics that are more recent than 1998], 54 percent of AIDS cases in America are homosexual men and 90 percent of HIV cases are gay. [Elaborate. More information is needed. How many men were surveyed? Geographic locations? Age?] Moreover, in the article "Gay Culture Weigh Sense and Sexuality" written by Sheryl Gay Stolberg in 1997 of New York Times, young men have 50 percent chance of getting HIV by middle ages. [Citing questionable evidence without critically analyzing it only undermines your assertions. If you cannot validate and critical analyze the claims of your sources, how can your readers readily concur? I suggest revising this paragraph.]

In addition to increased the chances of getting contracting diseases, gay marriage affects the children on academic performance and personalities. Children living in homosexual family have lower academic performance than heterosexual family. In a study done by Rosenfeld, 9.5 percent of children raised in homosexual families have to repeat a grade while there are 7 percent of children raised in heterosexual families repeat a grade. [Only a single study was done? One could also argue that there are more heterosexual marriages than homosexual ones; therefore, 7 percent of heterosexual marriages constitutes a larger disparity of children who have to repeat a grade than children with same-sex parents.] Moreover, gay marriages affect the personalities of children. Researchers believes that children need both men and women to raise their talents [What do you mean by "talents"?] instead of same sex parents. [Which researchers? Are you referring to the people at orthodoxytoday.org? Rather than rely on the opinions of a nonprofit website, cite evidence from educational institutions and researchers that are recognized authorities on the subject matter. Don't base your entire argument on an article titled "Children Need a Mom and a Dad."] In the article Children Need a Mom and a Dad from orthodoxytoday.org, women support the physical and emotion needs of children while men encourage children to be independence and competitive. If a child lives in gay families, he or she will not find much love from mother. On the other hand, if a child lives in lesbian families, he or she will not find traits of competitive from father.

Finally, and most importantly, gay marriages destroys the meaning of family. According to the Webster dictionary, family can be explained in term of relationship duration and commitment. [Faulty reasoning. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary also defines marriage as persons living in the same household, people of common ancestry, and the basic unit of a family consisting of two parents. In that particular dictionary, no where does it define family as a union between a man and a woman nor does it define it on the basis of duration and "commitment." Which edition did you use? If outdated, use more current sources in your paper. Consider revising this statement, as it further undermines your overall argument.] First, homosexual relationships just only last couple months rather than long term relationships of heterosexual marriage. [You don't provide any credible statistics to support your argument. Give readers an analysis as well as background information into these studies. You can do so by summarizing that information succinctly. Most of the time, readers will not visit the article to confirm your argument. That's why, as writers, we have to do the research for them.] In addition to relationship duration, homosexual relationships are not faithful to each other's. Researchers point out that an average gay person usually has a lot of partners in their lifetime. A study done by Bell and Weinberg shows that 43 percent of white gays had sex with 500 partners, and 28 percent of white gays slept with thousand partners. [For every article or study used, provide proper citations and dates to corroborate your reasoning. Readers will not accept claims at face value without such pertinent information. The reader must feel that you were thorough in your research and analysis. However, most of your arguments rely on laconic and unsubstantiated claims.]

Although there are many people say that banning gay marriage is an act of discrimination against homosexual couples, gay marriage should not be legalized because it destroys the meaning of family, affects the children on academic performance and personalities, and increases the chance of getting diseases. [After reading this paper, I am not convinced that your arguments hold any truth. Refine your paper according to my suggestions. I'd be interested to read it again.] If people carefully consider many sexual transmission diseases which primarily affect the homosexual lifestyles, perhaps we will not lose some talented gays or lesbians [This was never talked about in the essay, which makes its appearance peculiar.] Since the homosexual activities are the major causes of death in homosexual couples [Where is the information supporting this claim? You did not provide any statistics in the preceding paragraphs.], people should not allow gay marriage to be legalized.
