In her novel _Sense and Sensibility_, Jane Austen wrote, 'It is not time or opportunity that is to determine intimacy. Seven years would be insufficient to make some people acquainted with each other, and seven days are more than enough for others.' ... the point that Miss Dashwood makes is valid. No amount of time spent in another person's company can guarantee that the two of you will become friends.

What are your thoughts on the idea that neither time nor opportunity can determine intimacy? What causes two people to become friends? Compose an essay in which you express your views on this topic. Your essay may support, refute, or qualify the views expressed in the excerpt..."

The Essay
What causes two people to become friends ? and what causes two others to become enemies ? Of course the answer wouldn't be time or opportunity . Because friendship could be attributed only to the acceptance in character between people .

The famous author Jane Austen would be the best person to find what determines intimacy between people . In her novel Pride and Prejudice , Austen showed that love pure love, is not affected by wealth or social position , Miss Elizabeth and Mr. Bengly ,characters from Austen's novel were very different economically and society , but their mirage at the end of showed how Austen believed that intimacy could only be attributed to the acceptance in personality .

In another novel Austen had another approach to the, intimacy and what determines it, topic .In Sense and Sensibility, Austen proves through her character Miss Dashwood that no amount of time spent in another person's company can guarantee that the two of them would become friends .

Jane Austen once said " It is not time nor opportunity that is to determine intimacy , seven years would be insufficient to make some people acquainted with each other and seven days are more than enough for others . This words clearly show Austens correct believe that intimacy or love could not determine through time or opportunity buy only through acceptance in character .
