University of Wisconsin essay help - technically I am transferring

Hi so I am applying to University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. A little late but I graduated early and technically I am transferring. Unfortunately I don't have enough credits to be considered a transfer and I want to get in this Fall.

My question is, how important are both of the essays for the Milwaukee campus? I realize that I will need a while to plan and write them. The admission office said it takes about a month to decide whether I am accepted or not. So with things the way they are I don't think I will have enough time to write the essays properly. I also heard the Milwaukee campus is somewhat easier to get into than other Wisconsin campuses so I am just wondering if it is at all possible to get accepted without it...

The questions are:
#1 The University values an educational environment that provides all members of the campus community with opportunities to grow and develop intellectually, personally, culturally and socially. In order to give us a more complete picture of you as an individual, please tell us about the particular life experiences, perspectives, talents, commitments and/or interests you will bring to our campus. In other words, how will your presence enrich our community?

#2 If there is additional information you would like us to consider in reviewing your application, please share this with us as well. This is your opportunity to tell us things about yourself that have not been asked elsewhere if you believe they will help us become acquainted with you in ways different from courses, grades, and test scores.

By the way, I'm guessing that my ACT scores would also play a role. I got a composite score of 21. Also I am hopefully getting a letter of recommendation from a teacher that I did very well with. My lowest grade in that class was a 96% with all others being 100% so I think the letter will help a lot.

What's your major? You can answer the first question based on special skills you have in your major subject, or anything extra curricular you could do, or do something to change or bring something new to their community etc.

Hope this helps:)

Nevermind how important they are. Stay up all night tonight reading inspirational books and writing down ideas for each essay. You can achieve something excellent with these essays. Even if the school did not exist, this would be meaningful. Do this for yourself, and it will be brilliant.

For the first one, write a story from the perspective of someone characterized by enthusiasm. Write about your life as the life of someone gifted with the ability to encourage others. Do not blow your own horn, but simply tell the story. When someone tells a story, s/he can be quite impressive. I read Barack Obama's blogs recently, and, no matter how anyone feels about his politics, you must admit that he has passion. This is what you can accomplish with essay #1.

Essay #2 is a great opportunity. What do you want to say to the person that is making this decision? Use these opportunities. Good luck! It is great that your grades are excellent. Make the most of college, working in a heart-ful way. Express yourself and work hard, starting with these essays! This is as meaningful as life gets! :)

Thanks for the reply! I would be going into computer science. I had the first paragraph of the first statement but everywhere I looked it seemed that no one answered the question directly. I asked a teacher of mine and she said to plan and revise it carefully. But if that is all I have to do, then I guess Ill try my best.

So now how about the second statement? That one made it seem like it was just in case I didn't cover something in the first one...

And again, just in case I really can't finish it or whatever, how important is it to the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee? I'd really like there to be a near 100% chance I will get accepted, but I also want to know how my chances would change due to the absence of the statements

Oh didn't see the second reply. Yeah I am definitely going to attempt it but I am just worried about not getting it done in time. I am not good at staying up late with writing assignments and I usually mess those up when I am tired. So of course I am going to try but as I said earlier, I like to know all possible outcomes for different scenarios so I can have a plan for it. To quote something I read recently, I prepare for the worst but hope for the best. So I should be creative and write an interesting story from personal experience? And I still dont understand the second one. Could you clarify on that a bit? I dont really see how it is different than the first aside from the way I state my characteristics.

That second question... students often use it to explain difficult circumstances, to explain that, "the low GPA on my transcript does not reflect my aptitude as a student"... that sort of thing. However, it is also an opportunity to do something brilliant. Like life itself, these essays give you an open-ended opportunity to come up with something innovative and brilliant. Don't pass them up! Write what you can.

Some days, I am so inspired, and other days I am not. But even when I'm not inspired I can write SOMETHING and... although I may not like how it comes out... it helps me to get to know myself better.

I don't know the priorities of this particular school, so I can't tell you anything about what effect your failureto complete the essay will have. I can tell you, though, that "preparing for the worst" should involve something more than just expecting it. Prepare for the worst by staying up all night if necessary! :) I'd be remiss not to stress the importance of writing the essays. Not bothering to write the essays would be a weak way to start college!

Good luck! When is your deadline?

I'd say the essays are pretty important, if only because they show how much a student wants to get in. I mean, if a student can't be bothered to write a couple of pages and polish them into good shape, he obviously doesn't want to be admitted that badly.

So, come up with the best drafts you can, then post them here so that we can help you improve them.
