Question-Stanford students possess an intellectual vitality. Reflect on an idea or experience that has been important to your intellectual development.[250 words]

Answer- Intellectual vitality? Hmm. Learning is not a momentary process, a person learns and gains knowledge all his life. Knowledge isn't just limited to books or newspapers, every place we go, everything we do is part of the learning process. One such idea that was important for my intellectual development was maybe educational websites like Learncpp, html and code. I, being a geek, was not satisfied with what little was being taught to me in my C++ and HTML classes. The thought of walking the same path as creators of Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn was really my thing. Not learning what was behind such revolutions would have made me restless. Learning the basics from my classes then using these websites to elaborate my knowledge and skills and then creating something no one in my class could, this is what gave me happiness. Bearing in mind the fact that I am not the best programmer , I like to exchange my ideas with people around the world on the forums of these WebPages and maintain some affinity with them, which challenges me to be more logical about how to solve my problems and ensure to pick up the things I have missed to learn. These educational sites enable me to always do more than what is expected from me. The best thing about these is the regular updating of content, so this way; I learn something new every time I visit these websites, which is necessary for my mental peace and satisfaction. Though there are many incidents that have impacted my intellectual development but this practice has had a significant effect.

Hi,

I think this is a nice start. You establish your passion for computer programming and show that you have a great knowledge on the topic as well. There are a few things in here that you may want to reconsider. First, you have to get rid of the passive voice ("was maybe" and "was being taught"). I think it makes your essay sound too conversational and it doesn't make you come across as an active person. Example, "I taught myself C++" sounds a lot stronger than "I was taught C++". You might also want to consider tying in your learning experience with programming to your future learning experience at Stanford. You're on to some good stuff regarding exchanging ideas with people on forums. Find a way to tie in a comparison with learning as a college student at Stanford. Standford is elite, so you want to make sure that you sound the part and do some ego stroking for your application reviewers. I hope this feedback serves you well. Best of luck with this app and don't forget about the little people when you create the next Twitter ;)

Edited - Intellectual vitality? Hmm. Learning is not a momentary process, a person learns and gains knowledge all his life. Knowledge isn't just limited to books or newspapers, every place we go, everything we do is part of the learning process. One such idea that was important for my intellectual development was accessing educational websites like Learncpp, html and code. I, being a geek, was not satisfied with what little I was learning in my C++ and HTML classes. The thought of walking the same path as programmers Scott McNealy, Jerry Yang was really my thing. These Stanford graduates are the people whose biographies interests me. Stanford students are known for creating something out of the usual and being there would entice me to do the something more than what is expected from me , to do what I love. Bearing in mind the fact that I am not the best programmer, I like to exchange my ideas with people around the world on the forums of these WebPages and maintain some affinity with them, which challenges me to be more logical about how to solve my problems and ensure to pick up the things I have missed to learn, living with the top notch students would enhance this practice. The best thing about these is the regular updating of content, so this way; I learn something new every time I visit these websites, which makes me equally happy as I will be while working on researches along with the professors at the university. Though there are many incidents that have impacted my intellectual development but this practice has had a significant effect.

Are you practicing for this upcoming cycle with last year's prompts? In any event, you do not really answer the prompt. You start to, but never really finish. You stated " I, being a geek, was not satisfied with what little I was learning in my C++ and HTML classes. " Now what you have to do is show how you actually went above and beyond the call of duty to really obtain the knowledge you desired. -Admissions Advice Online
