Stanford; Books matter to me

Prompt:

What matters to you, and why? (250 word limit)

Response:

What matters to me? Books matters to me. Why do they matter to me? They have guided me right from my childhood to my soon-to-be-adulthood.

I hope so, I think so and I believe so that books are alive. Ohh yes they are very much living. Though, they may not fit the 'definition' of life. But trust me, books are very much alive. You may not hear them talk nor see them move. But they are always there listening to our problems and finding ways to solve them.

Spending so many years with the books has made me accept them as my own family members. They are always there whenever I need them. If I find myself in a crisis, I simply call up my Aunt Chicken Soup. She can always relate one of her stories to my personal problem. When I am in a need of a good horror story, I pay a visit to my Uncle Goosebumps whose stories really send shivers down my spine.

When I need to fulfill my curiosity, I write to my Granddad Britannica. His information has always satisfied my hunger for knowledge. When I am in a gloomy mood and the only thing that can brighten me up is humor, I call up my local practitioner Dr. Seuss. Since his stories really have a humorous touch that can instantly turn my frown upside down.

You see, my family is always there. My books never desert me and because of this books are what that matters to me the most.

Are you applying to Stanford or Palo Alto Community College? I mean seriously. Can you get any more cliche? Do yourself a favor and pick another topic. Something personal. They really want to know more about you, what makes you unique...what will you bring to campus, how will you contribute to the Stanford community??? Saying that you love books in these essays is the same thing as saying you love "air. -Admissions Advice Online

I agree with you. I hated it myself. Just wanted to know if others feel the same or not. Though, I came up with this a month ago.

Thanks.

Could you throw in some ideas about what Stanford would really like?
The best I can think of is finding happiness in small things.
