Going to a college is the main part of life as in college we start shaping our path, get more matured, and start taking initiative steps to our own lives beyond our parents. Reed initially attracted me because it offers a path where I could choose what I wanted to study instead of requiring me to take certain classes like in my country that I was plainly not passionate about. The range of programs and facilities available to students, reveal that Reed would provide me with great opportunities to improve my academic potentials dramatically.
Last year I was exchange student for academic year in the USA. I learned an incredible amount from this experience, living and being in a culture was wonderful and challenging, and the wonder that I experienced broadened my thinking and understanding. I also amplified my knowledge about how other cultures think, live, and function. After that experience I decided that I want to experience other cultures and got interested in pursuing International Relations and Communications. Reed has multicultural opportunities that are really valuable to me. Innovative programs such as International and Comparative Policy Studies (ICPS) demonstrate it is the place where I will get outstanding education, not just education but form studying and living with diverse body of students I actually get the sense of diversity and international relations in all its best. Besides I loved the fact that I would be treated as an individual in class and not one face in the sea of a hundred person lecture and the small community meant I would get to know many of my classmates and their works. All things make me feel that it can be my second home on another part of the world.
Above and beyond another main factor that encounters my interests in Reed is it offers great opportunity for foreign students by proposing financial aid and scholarships. I came up from middle class family, where my parents cannot fully afford for my higher education; nevertheless it does not restrict my path on being educated person and gaining higher education. I am ambitious to learn, to discover the world beyond impediments with my hard work. And Reed gives great chance to many individuals like me to get through barriers, to obtain higher education and to get the next chapter of life (college years) I can go through my difficulties, Reed College opens door for it.
One great man said: "To accomplish the great things we must not only act, but also dream, not only dream but also believe" and I really believe I will be one of Reedies and get life changing chance.
