My own place, Small detail in the world, New Curriculum - NotreDame Supplement

Good afternoon! There are three questions for ND's supplement, and the word counts are about 150, plus or minus.

1. The Grotto is a cherished destination on Notre Dame's campus, a space that invites students and visitors to pray and take time for reflection. Do you have a place that you seek out, and what do you contemplate there?

It is 7 o'clock in the morning, and I am in a shower room. Warm and hot water is coming out, melting my rigid body. This is a small square room whose all four sides are in my arm's reach. The room looks smaller when vapor fills up an empty space. I am thinking about what to write in the supplement essay. Yes, this is it. My dormitory's shower room is where a number of serious and casual decisions and thoughts have been made. Some may consider this weird. A serious thought in a shower room? During a ten-minute shower, I get the best meditation of the day. The total isolation from the outside world helps me to concentrate on the matter. The shower room offers me a great efficiency. In about two months, I am going to graduate, and I already started missing the room of contemplation.

2. What is one small detail in the world that you notice and wish others did, too?

If someone asks me to pick the best part of my body, I would proudly introduce the beautiful finger nails, especially the thumbs. I do not have that much knowledge in aesthetics, but I am sure the size of the thumbs are in "golden ratio." Deep and shallow wrinkles underneath the nails create a harmony for each finger. I bet I possess the most artistic fingers in the school. The finger nails do not give me utility yet, but someday I would use them for a hand model. Until I intendedly show my finger nails to people, they miss the beauty that I wish to share. I feel elated when they comment on the finger nails. Of course, it is natural to miss the tiny details, unless one has a fetish for fingers. I hope that friends notice the beauty when I just make a big motion or pose with my hands before I say something.

3. The curriculum offered at Notre Dame varies from what you might expect (e.g. Introduction to Biological Sciences, Accountancy) to topics you might not (e.g. Theology and Engineering, Friendship: From Aristotle to Facebook). If you could introduce a new course and serve as the expert instructor, what would it be and why?

I see many courses at the department of music, ranging from performance to theory. There are some courses that do not require instruments, but just harmonic voices. As expected, however, there is no course for human beatboxing, which also do not involve any other instruments at all. It was 2004 when I saw the commercial where one man showed up and performed exhilarating beatboxing. Inspired deeply I practiced this cool lip movement by watching video lessons on the Internet. My lips were chapped and mom scolded me for noise. I finally mastered the sounds of each percussion, and produced heart-striking beats. I took more pleasure in teaching my friends beatboxing than just showing them. Therefore it would be a great opportunity to be an instructor at Notre Dame. I would teach students the basic sounds, firstly. When they reach the certain level, I would create a team for a group sound to perform.

Thanks in advance.

I like brevity:
It is seven a.m., and I am in a shower room.

The shower room offers me a great efficiency--I don't know what you mean by efficiency here, but maybe a word or two of explanation would help. In general, I love this first essay... good stuff. You write well!!

sure the size of the thumbs are in "golden ratio" against the (index finger?).

All three of these responses are briliant, and unless your AO reader is a real door knob, she or he will appreciate you as much as I do!

I see many courses at the department of music, ranging from performance to theory.---This paragraph topic sentence is uneventful and maybe not very interesting.

:-)
