Prompt: What are the unique qualities of Northwestern - and of the specific undergraduate school to which you are applying - that make you want to attend the University? In what ways do you hope to take advantage of the qualities you have identified?

My dream career has always been really straightforward, I aspire to attain a law degree in International law and eventually move back to Nigeria to serve my county and my people. Since my immigration to the U.S. at the age of six, I've always upheld this hope, that one day I can utilize my learned tools and abilities to help my nation and instill in them what has continuously been instilled in me, the desire to hope and the hope to dream. As of right now, I am thrust upon the pinnacle of my life, knowing that the decisions I make will greatly affect my life to come. With this realization, I've come to understand the importance my homeland should have in deciding where I choose to spend the next four years of my life. I have come to believe that Northwestern University truly presents me with the opportunity to not only cultivate my dreams in life, but also bring to life the dreams of my people.

Renowned as a leading private research University, Northwestern provides a perfect equilibrium in all areas of study and an extensive liberal arts education that truly generates an incredible array of course options for their students. Their well developed Weinberg School of Arts and Science breads a learning environment that truly enables the student to not only garner a cohesive education but also learn the practical skills needed to effectively pursue their career choice. Within the School of Arts and Science, resides the International Studies program, a major I hope to pursue. The program's pragmatic yet inspiring blend of diplomacy and peacemaking truly speaks to the realities of the world as we see it. Having involved myself in numerous social awareness clubs and community service organizations throughout high school, I was immediately drawn to the surplus array of student advocacy groups at Northwestern. The prevalence of organizations, such as AID (Americans for Informed Democracy), Amnesty International, and the Peace Project in the school community presents me with the opportunity to continue broadening my knowledge on issues of global importance.

Even though I've never been to the city of Chicago I can truly envision myself strolling along the Magnificent Mile and State Street or spending the afternoon at the Millennium Park. The city of Chicago may have initially attracted me to look into Northwestern, but the university itself is what instigated me to explore further. Studying alongside 8,476 undergraduates from across the globe will not only broaden my perspective on life, but also teach me that going to a university is more than just academics, it's a chance to explore and develop new interests, integrate within a new community, and set out of one's comfort zone. I truly identify Northwestern as being a cohesive orchestra in which all the different traits and characteristics truly work concurrently to form a beautiful whole. It is the collective impact of the tenacious faculty, thriving spirit, and the surplus opportunities that truly makes the University sing. Northwestern seems to breed not just students, but leaders in this increasingly globalized community and I know that if I were to graduate from Northwestern I would not only obtain a degree, but also a future filled with uncountable opportunities. My heritage and life experiences have shaped me into the person you see before you today, instead of fighting the problems that life has presented to me I have learned to accept them and reached a point in my life that, now that the doors to success have been opened for me, it is my duty to do so for others. The passion I have towards my nation, my drive to attain success not for the betterment of myself, but the improvement of those around me, and the strength and determination that lies within me will allow me to fully utilize all the opportunities Northwestern has to offer to not only cultivate my aspirations but also bring about success and happiness for my people back home.

I also noticed you used at least one "not only...but also" statement in each paragraph. There's nothing wrong with this, but it does get a bit repetitive. Try using different wording or switching it up for more variety.

I'm working on the supplement essay for NU as well--could you give me some feedback on mine?

This is a bit long. I remember that the NU essay has a 500 word limit.
The essay is great in the sense that it clearly shows your intentions and your writing flows very well. I just really don't like the voice when I'm reading the essay. It seems to be a bit over the top saying words like truly or fully etc. Maybe you can tune the essay down to a voice that is a bit more casual. Hope that helps.
