My essay still is not quite long enough! I am open to any suggestions on what else to include and grammar corrections. Thank you!!

Why I Have Chosen Radiography as a Career Field

Since my Junior year in high school, I have been interested in radiologic technology. I had the opportunity to observe a number of diffusion tensor imaging, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imagining, and computerized tomography procedures at the Center for Diagnostic Imaging Clinic in Sartell, Minnesota for a total of twelve hours. During that time, I witnessed first-hand what the job entails. Also, I have learned from that experience that radiologic technologists have highly developed patient care and communication skills. Radiologic technology is the most appealing career for me because it is a respected profession dedicated to helping people remain healthy. I have chosen Radiography as a career field for three reasons: a desire to help others, a desire to learn, and a desire to be challenged as an individual.

I am passionate about helping others in my community. I want to touch lives and make an impact. I love working and volunteering in healthcare; and this has dramatically influenced my career choice. Through my experiences, I have developed a strong interest in the medical field and a desire to share the challenges of the modern health care team.

For two years during high school, I was a junior volunteer at St. Cloud Hospital. While volunteering I assisted in transporting patients, distributing mail and delivering flowers to rooms. Currently, I am a volunteer and a teaching assistant in the Certified Nursing Assistant program at the American Red Cross of St. Cloud, Minnesota. Through the American Red Cross I have received training in First Aid, CPR. I also became certified in nurse assisting and home health care at the American Red Cross. I am also a member of the Medical Professions Club at St. Cloud State University.

Once I become a Radiographer, I will have a responsibility to help improve the well-being and health of the patients I serve. I love working and interacting with a variety of people every day. I have had two years experience as a delegated Stearns County Youth Task Force committee member. During that time, I discussed issues such as racism, teen pregnancy, drug and alcohol abuse, and bullying with an assortment of students from different schools and different ethnic backgrounds. As a group we practiced critical thinking, problem solving, and leadership skills. Ultimately, this experience developed my ideas and interests about improving the community by helping others.

While being trained as a radiologic technologist, I will be challenged as a student. I want to be confident in what I know and what I have to offer. I want to be an integral part of the diagnostic team by producing images of the body using state-of-the-art radiation equipment. I am most interested in the combination of technology and science, patient care, and collaboration. I want to develop my skills in communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, human anatomy, and patient care. I also have a strong interest in computer software and application technology.

Lastly, I have a desire to be challenged as an individual. I enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and dealing with different situations every day. I am passionate about setting goals for myself and achieving them. I will exploit every resource to meet my highest potential as a professional. With my commitment to this career field, I want to be a part of your clinical internship program.

I have witnessed first-hand what the radiography career field entails. I have learned from that experience that radiologic technologists have highly developed patient care skills, communication skills, and a passion for helping others. I have chosen Radiography as a career field for three reasons: a desire to help others, a desire to learn, and a desire to be challenged as an individual. I would be honored to have a radiography clinical internship at St. Joseph's hospital, where the mission statement is, "To continually improve the health and well-being of all people, especially the poor, in the community we serve."

Find places to cut unnecessary words:
Since my Junior year, I have been interested in radiologic technology. ---- but actually I wish you would not open with this line. SO MANY applicants start with "I have been interested in XXXXX since I was young..." etc.

I see some very impressive discussion in the rest of that intro paragraph...

Radiologic technology is the most appealing career for me because it is a respected profession dedicated to helping people remain healthy.------ well, you could say that about any health care profession. You can do better with this sentence!

I have chosen Radiography as a career field for three reasons: a desire to help others, a desire to learn, and a desire to be challenged as an individual.--- again, you can do better. It is okay to tell the whole truth, the details... what is it really that makes you choose this over your second-choice program?

The rest of this is very impressive, and I see that you explain it in terms of that statement about desire to help others, be challenged, etc. Those are just kind of cliche. I think you can take out a lot of the 'fluffy' sentences like this:

I am passionate about helping others in my community. I want to touch lives and make an impact. I love working and volunteering in healthcare; and this has dramatically ...--- I crossed out some sentences that Admissions readers see way too often.
