Evaluate a significant experience you have faced and its impact on you.
Perhaps the most significant event that I had to undergo is the financial crisis that my family experienced during my sophomore year in high school. This experience really shaped my mindset towards society and achieving success in general.

In 2007, my parents started a business not out of luxury or ample time, but out of desperation and lack of options. Unfortunately, despite our hopes and prayers, our family restaurant ultimately went bankrupt a year later. Although statistically this shouldn't be surprising as the chances of failure in starting a small business are so large that it's practically expected, the impact was monumental as our family completely depended upon the success of this business.

Due to the lack of money coming into our household, we were forced to cut back not only on the luxurious items, such as television subscription, shopping, and going out for a dinner, but also the essential needs, such as electricity, clothes, and food. Furthermore, this made it difficult for me and my family to be considered socially acceptable as we secluded ourselves from any social events and used that time to seek for a job, desperately trying to maintain our household. Despite their prestigious educational diplomas, my parents sought everywhere from experienced to unskilled, but the result was rejection every time. Although the effect of the physical sacrifices was indubitably great, perhaps the largest toll of this entire fiasco was the mental scar that was left on my parents and me. The symphony of emotions that I experienced is ineffable; to simply tack on a label hopeless provides no justice to the desolate state of mind I was in. Every day I woke up and thought I was living in something of a nightmare. My mom, dad, even sister seemed to mope around like mindless zombies.

Meanwhile, as all the negative events were taking place simultaneously, the peers at my school seemed so superficial flaunting about their latest model of a Lexus that they got for their birthday. This developed great exasperation inside of me, but eventually as time progressed, I translated this into fervor for success. I was sick and tired of how everyone around me is living a high life, but in a couple blocks down, we can barely keep up with the payments, and would desperately wait for the unemployment check to arrive. This indignation relentlessly put myself in the best situation I can to be successful in life. I did not want to experience such defeat anytime later in my life, and I have used that abhorrence towards impecunious life to be resilient against any hardships that I faced.

Not only that, I want to change the world for the better. I want to be someone. I want to not only make a name for myself, but also give opportunities to passionate individuals as myself who were simply placed in less than optimal financial and educational environment to achieve their dreams.

I think your essay has to emphasize more on how the experience CHANGE YOU TO BETTER PERSON
