Prompt: Write essay regarding your career goals and how they relate to small business and entrepreneurship

Ever since I was little, I have always thought about careers I could possibly pursue over time. My decisions kept changing, but my one goal in life remained: to find something that I would love to do for the rest of my life and stick with it. Over the past thirteen years or so, my passion for dance has always had a significant influence on my life, and I hope to open and manage my own dance studio and company in my future.

Throughout my entire high school experience, I have learned more about myself as well as what my personal strengths and weaknesses are. Some of my strengths would include organization, dedication, and pride. With these noticeable strengths, I was chosen to be the student president of the Orchesis dance program at Elk Grove High School for not just my senior year, but for junior year as well. These key strengths will also help me achieve my future goals in managing a company or studio.

In addition to my dance training in grade school and high school, I need to continue training in dance in college, which would also require taking classes in technique, choreographer, history teaching, management, and more. Training in dance is extremely important to succeed as a dance educator because I need to understand dance styles and technique as well as appreciate it at different levels.

As an owner of a dance studio, I would like to share my passion and provide dancers from a wide age range with a dance education opportunity. I would like to develop and choreograph routines for dance recitals within my studio and competitions nationwide. But running a studio is more than just teaching.

Running a dance studio requires plenty of management and organization, both of which I have had a sample of though my high school Orchesis dance program. I would have to start out by creating a business plan which states my intentions, what styles of dance will be taught, the expected client base, total expenses and project revenue and more. I also need to secure the funding I need, meaning using savings, getting loans, seeking investors or using other avenues such as grants. One of the most significant requirements: purchase, rent or lease out studio space.

Once most of the financial planning is settled, I would put together a class schedule based on the classes that teachers are qualified to teach, the hours of operation, and a variety of levels for each style of dance to accommodate all possible dancers. To keep the studio a successfully running business, I need to explore ways to attract customers and business through advertising, free publicity, and marketing, and more.

Running a dance studio is a lot of work, and I believe that a degree in Business Management-Entrepreneurship will help me achieve my goals and succeed as a dance studio owner and teacher and as an entrepreneur.
