Appeal letter to get into NUS Law

Hi I underperformed during the interview and hence might have jeopardized my chances of getting into NUS Law. I am considering preparing an appeal in advance in case the test doesn't help me get through. How do I convince them that I should be awarded a place? I got straight As from a premier institution, with a leadership position in my cca.

Obviously you will want to mention your academic success in your essay. But personally I think the essay (if you need to write it) would be also a good place to show off any good qualities that you have that you feel may have not come through in your interview. Think of the appeal essay as a chance for you to prove to them that you are more than just the person they interviewed.

Why do you feel you underperformed in the interview? For example, if you feel you acted too nervous, this essay might be a good time to really show off your confidence. Or if you felt you were stiff and humorless, then go ahead and show a little personality in your writing. Make a joke or two. Be sassy. (But don't go overboard).

Also, with any letter to a company/school/etc. that you want to be a part of, it's always a good idea to keep some of the focus on them. Use words like "you" and "your school" a lot. For instance, instead of writing: "I have a very strong work ethic," you could say something like, "My strong work ethic would be a benefit to your school..."

You could write a funny, self-depreciating letter. It could have dry humor and sarcasm. That is what I would probably do, but it is risky, obviously.

Maybe your appeal letter should go directly to the person who interviewed you...

I am thinking of best case scenarios, the best, coolest things that could happen... but you probably should not listen to me because doing something unconventional is not always good.

Still, the appeal letter must have a theme, and it is great if you make it about the interview that went so poorly.

But in answer to your question, the best way to make them accept you is to show that you have planned out every step of your education, that you are on a mission to achieve a unique aspiration... that you are trying to really do something. Show that you have goals and a vision for the future, and they will not want to deny you the opportunity to achieve that vision.
