Question about Umich's Diversity..

Share an experience through which you have gained respect for intellectual, social, or cultural differences. Comment on how your personal experiences and achievements would contribute to the diversity of the University of Michigan.

I seriously can't think of anything for this prompt, I haven't really been in international community program or in another country..

I was getting desperate and thinking if I wrote about how I had high stereotypes and how my two best friends that i met in high school, who happen to be part of the some of the races i had stereotypes about, break this stereotype. Only thing is I don't have a "specific experience" that showedme diversity but rather a combined experience in my years of high school with them. Would this topic be a little too cliche and not really show my respect for diversity.

Any help of any kind would be appreciated lol

you can definately write about an incident that made you realize the importance of diversity such as... you visited your best friend's house and learned to appreciate his culture.

It really doesnt have to be international experience...or anything big like that..
I remember reading an essay about this guy who is a goth.....he wrote about how different he is from others and this will contribute to the diversity..so try writing something different about you from others...

Hmm... yeah.. I guess it's just hard for my to capture that epiphany moment since nothing specials sparkles out at me.

this should be a reflective sort of narrative, a thoughtful story. Know what I have never seen? An essay about how learning about Darwin's Theory of Evolution caused someone to appreciate cultural diversity. that would be interesting, if you read a few articles and figure out the connections.

Also, though, you might want to take the more common approach, which is to tell a story about an experience with 2 or more cultures. What other culture have you exprienced in a memorable way... a way that made you stop to think about their culture?

Hmm.. that's actually a great idea, I was always fascinated with Social Dwarwism and now that I think of it that did actually make me experience something of that sort lol.. thanks
