inappropriate intro common

I so want to put an my intro for my why duke essay, but I believe there is a fine line between having jokes and being serious. what you guys think?

I think this is totally fine. Starting with humor is a great way to get the reader interested in your essay. And i definitely smiled at that last line. How come sciences are sour, btw?
