1. "What characteristics and capabilities do you have that would contribute to making you a doctor who is concerned with caring for patients as well as with curing them? What have you learned from some of the extracurricular activities that you listed above or from other experiences about the role, career, and life of a doctor? How have your experiences influenced your decision to pursue a medical career?"
Doctor is one of the most respected and honorable professions in the world. A lot of great and well rounded people came from this occupation. They had different abilities, characteristics, experiences, backgrounds, and values, despite that they were successful in their lives. Examples of who-specifically are: Ole Worm, Rudolf Virchow, Jane Addams, David Alter, and Heinrich Wilhelm Matthäus Olbers. This list can be continued for pages.
My goal is to become a doctor. I have persistence, quick mind, reliability, and ability to take responsibility for my actions. My involvement in the New York Harbor Healthcare System at the Department of Veteran Affairs in Brooklyn persuaded me that I'm capable and that I'm going to be suitable for this profession. My inner family issues just increased my interest in it.
My persistence and reliability are shown in school. I am doing all of my home works and class assignments. I'm taking all assignments seriously and going out of my way to get them done. For example, once I had to bring the tapes to my friend in the middle of the night in order to finish our project. I'm always trying to improve my work and performance. I think these characteristics are crucial to a doctor. Doctor is suppose to put the most effort in the curing the patient. He just can not drop the case on the half way.
Quick mind is the other characteristic that is very useful. It is important to people who want to become a doctor, because in order to get to the level of Doctor of Medicine the person need to spend approximately ten years. There a lot of studying going on during those years. The faster you can learn it the more you can learn. Also it will be easier to recall needed information in the critical moment, and to make a right decision in any situation.
Responsibility is a big advantage in any case. If the person has it then it means that the person is going to think before saying or doing something. This kind of people always sticks out in the mass amounts of people, because these people are analyzing their actions and are not going to be doing the same mistakes again. This trait is very honorable among doctors. It is so because patient can be safe from his or hers personal information is secured and that it is not reviled to press or to anybody other then the patient itself.
As I mentioned before I was a volunteer in the hospital. I was a clerk assistant and worked behind the nurses' desk. Even though I was behind the nurses' desk I still had and used my opportunities to talk and help doctors with varies activities. My views on the doctors changed slightly. Now I understand that doctors rely on others as much as everybody else relies on them. The interaction between members of the hospital is one of the most important in the patient care system. I also found out that they are doing much more then just observing the patient and writing orders for labs and medications. They are interacting with patient family members, making sure that the patient is well even after the discharge from the hospital, and that the treatment is not causing new problems both physical and psychological.
The medicine was and still is an issue in my family. My mother suffers from high blood pressure for several years already. Also my grandmother died from stroke last spring. And my grandfather gets sick easily. These issues are influencing me on daily basis. I care about them and because of that I want to help them. I think that my medical career is going to lighten the problems with health in my family.
Every person is unique. Everybody has different view and experiences the same happening differently. My inner family and personal experiences led to me to the choice of becoming a doctor. My characteristics and believes are proving me suitable for this occupation.

2. "2. Why do you feel that a background in the humanities and social sciences, in addition to the natural sciences, is important in training a physician? In what specific ways do you think the B.A.-M.D. Program can help you to achieve your life goals?"
People differ from one another. They are reacting differently in the same situations. The art of understanding the people in general is very hard to obtain. The person is able to obtain it from the study of social sciences, humanities, and better analyze of itself.
The social studies are a broad branch in the educational system. It contains: anthropology, communication studies, criminology, economics, geography, history, political science, psychology, social studies, and sociology. The social studies are showing the actual facts of how humans used to behave, think, and what decisions they used to make. The most common ones that everybody knows from the school are social studies, history, and geography. A doctor with good stand in this broad area can predict the reaction of the patient. This knowledge can be used to persuade the patient easily.
Humanities are playing an important role in the doctor's career as well. The firm stand in humanities is allowing the doctor to look at each patient critically and analytically. Unlike the social sciences where everything is taking in a chart and in general terms, the humanities are viewing everybody as unique case. This helps doctors when they are accounting with a deviant patient. Also it is proven more effective when social skills are not working.
I believe that B.A.-M.D. Program is going to further increase my knowledge in both of those areas. Also I believe that the ability of finishing pre-med school under one program is giving me a lot of advantages. The most obvious one is completion of pre-med in shorter time then usually. This will allow me to finish all of my schooling faster and will make me more successful. Also it is going to help me to take care of my family faster and with a much greater knowledge then I would ever had without this program.
