My parents had sealed my fate when I was only a toddler - I would grow to be a Chartered Professional Accountant. I readily accepted and cherised that thought. Surely, my parents would knowthewhat was best for me. When the time for university admissions approached, I knew exactly what I wanted to do: The Accounting Specialist and economics major at the University of XXX. However, with each passing second, Ifind found in myself a greater interest for economics and simultaneously an increasing distate for accounting. sounds a little funny As my third semester approchescame to an end, I have decided that I wantedno longer wanted to pursue a career in economics notor accounting. At the same time I have comecame to the realization that the my University of XXX doesdid not fulfill my academic needs due to three simple reasons.
FirstlyFirst of all , the Commerce program at my university is highly structured - s tudents may take only two credits outside of their degree requirements. Even then, students are restricted from enrolling in several courses. A commerce student, for instance, can not enroll in a sociology course. As an aspiring Accountant, I found this depth to be quite fitting since all my courses were designed to obtain the CPA.Had a hard time understanding what you ment However, as an aspiring economist, I believe a liberal arts education, as opposed to a career- oriented education, will better fit my goals and objectives as I plan to opt for sociology, literature, philosophy etc. courses alongside economic courseswhy?? Why would these classes help you? .
Secondly, the courses themselves are too structureduse another world . There is little to no room for dicussions, creativity, and outside the box thinking. My Proffessors can neither incorporate their own research into lectures nor can they spend reasonable time on real world examples - The focus, thus far, has been on mostly theory and theoretical analysiswhay does that matter to you?? How would it help if they were allowed to? .
Thirdly, due to limited student enrollment, the economics specialist program is not as well funded as the accounting specialist program, or even the finance specialist program for that matter. Most events and competitions are accounting or finance based, so are most of the information and recruitment sessions.I would take this out and elaborate more on the things I mentioned before
As a transfer, I seek a new environment where I can freely develop upon my passion for economics and satisfy my thirst for knowledge.
