Five Themes of Geography Analysis
The five themes of geography are present in every geographer's life. This set of themes includes; location, place, human-environment interaction, movement, and region. Another way of looking at this set of themes in order; "Where is it?', "What is it like there?", "How do humans interact with the environment?", "What things or people get moved?", and "Does this land share unifying characteristics?" These are the questions geographers ask all the time; perhaps we applied the five themes to Thomas Edison's location(s).

Location
Thomas Edison was born In Milan, Ohio in the country of the United States of America. The exact location of this town is North 41°, West 82°. The relative location of Milan in relation to the continent of North America is in the interior. The position of this town in relation to other countries is South of Canada, North of Mexico. A location is its position on Earth, whether it is an exact location utilizing longitude and latitude or a relative location, such as its relation to other countries. Both relative location and exact location are highly important in this particular theme.

Place
Another important theme of geography is place. It answers the question, "What is it like there?" This include physical and manmade features such as land forms, waterways, climate, vegetation, wild life as well as human features; roads and bridges, buildings, even the people who live there and anything made by humans. The average summer temperature in Milan is about 75°F and winters are usually below freezing. Annually the precipitation varies but usually between 20-50 inches. Some landforms in Ohio are flat plains and low hills. Lake Erie and the Ohio River are major waterways. In Ohio, corn and mixed forest grow in the area. Highways, canals, railroads and buildings are all present in the state of Ohio.

Human-Environment Interaction
Humans and the environment are constantly interacting and affecting each other. This includes the shaping of the landscape, human dependency of the environment, altering the environment, and attuning to the environment. If we apply this to Edison's birth location during his time period in Ohio, he certainly depended on the environment for food, air, and water. Some modifications Edison and people during his time did, is the installation of electrical cables underground, cleaning areas to create lumber yards, and sure enough the multiple laboratories Edison built.

Movement
People, goods, and ideas are continuously moving. During Edison's time, he moved to Michigan, along with several cities in New Jersey; Newark, Menlo Park and West Orange. Transportation of goods and people essentially was by train in addition to cars and boats. The transportation of ideas occurred through messages sent by telegraph, newspapers, and the telephone.

Region
Regions are areas that share common characteristics. Edison lived in North America, and continents do have physical regions; the part he lived in was rich in forest. In turn you could define that area as a heavily forested region. The country that Edison resided in was the United States of America, countries have political regions and are not inherent to land and are human made. The main language spoken in Edison birthplace is English, so correspondingly it could be defined as an English speaking region. Christianity remains one of the dominate religions in this area, so we can call this a Christian region. Climates are also regions, for instance Edison lived in a continental climate.

There are minimal requirements, I just need to analyze Thomas Edison using the Five Themes of Geography.

This sounds like an interesting theme. Unfortunately, I've never written anything quite like this but I will give it a shot if it will help.

Can you clarify what you mean about applying the 5 themes to Thomas Edison? Are you supposed to demonstrate how these aspects of geography had an influence on his development or character? I would take the angle of determining how geography influenced his early life, cultivated his genius for invention, and helped create the opportunities available to him. That is my first pass at this with not a lot of familarity with your class.
