My ex boyfriend - Person Who Impacted your life

Ok. im trying to get into uw madison the prompt is life experices and the impact you will have on our campus. I really don't know what to write about. The only person and experice that i think effected me is my ex boyfriend. When we broke it off i lost everything because when we were together i lost my priorities. I had to learn to be independent again and bulid my life with friends and family back up, in the end I learned to be strong and to not let anything or anyone contol my life.

theres alot more detail, but i feel its a really stupid thing to write about but it did effect me.

I believe you should post it here for some critique on the actual paper, because to me the topic sounds fine. The only problem is: were you thinking about what the college will want to hear from this paper? Obviously your ex-boyfriends relevance to the assignment isn't the problem so much as what you learned from the experience. Also, was it really your ex-boyfriend who influenced you, or was it some third party who intervened and opened your eyes towards the situation?

i agree with kame. its not a problem to wrote about ex boyfriend but the content has to be honest and appealing. but don't you think you could rack your brains more you know like soul searching for something more stronger.

1) did you attend any camp what did you learn... what you will contribute to the campus.
2) your boyfriend could be one para in the essay and not more.
3) there must be something in school... an incident... a competition...you lost/won your experience
4)Parents....relative...pet.... some one who made you realize some issue.
get the idea....?

It took me a while to understand this... I see what you mean. He had taken up 90% of your attention and provided 90% of your fulfillment.

Well, the reason you think it is a stupid topic is probably that you intuit the fact that adults have trouble taking teenage relationships seriously. We say, "Oh, there are other fish in the sea" and stupid stuff like that. But actually, you can make this a great topic. Here is how:

Do not make it about YOUR relationship, but instead make it about your experience of discovering this phenomenon, this tendency of people to invest all their eggs in the basket of a boyfriend/girlfriend, and then lose their identity in the process.

This is a common human problem, and you now have great insight into it. Write this not about you and your relationship with all its details, etc. but instead about human nature and a tough lesson to learn.

And mention your professional goals! Remember, you will be a professional in your chosen field just a few summers and winters from now... like 5 or something. So get ready! Make this all about getting back on track academically and professionally. :-)

I personal think it is a good idea to write about your ex boyfriend, mainly because when it broke off you lost a sense of who you were. He basically was your world and other things didn't really take effect like he did. you can show as a person how you evolve to the person you are today, and the obstacles it took to get to the point you are in life. An as a person you learned from your mistakes and that a boyfriend shouldn't always be your main priority in life.

i think its a great idea, my ex-boyfriend was the WORSTTT and we broke up I was inspired to do better . It could turn into a very inspirational story for other's as well. :) good luck
