Hello everybody,

I need to present my persuasive speech about "Homosexual couples should be allowed to adopt children". I have to convince my audience with the main points that gay couples have the right to adopt children. Also I need to use the visual aids to support my evidence or main points. Do you have any ideas how I might organize my speech or what kind of visual aids I might use? Thanks.

Greetings!

This topic would certainly seem to lend itself to some statistical data. There must be some studies that have been done on how well the children of gay couples do in school, or get on in life. See if you can find some which show things like grade point average or graduation rates or the percentage who go on to obtain advanced degrees or become professionals like doctors and lawyers. If the research is available, you could also approach it from the other side, showing that these children are less likely to be arrested or go into drug rehab. Do some digging and see what types of information are most easily available. Then, find or make a graph showing the statistics, for example, a pie chart showing what percentage of children of gay couples graduate from college. Or you could also focus on the parents themselves. What about the separation rate (not, in most places, divorce rate, as they are not allowed to marry); do these couples tend to stay together more than heterosexuals, and, if so, does this provide a more stable home environment?

Decide which direction you want to focus on, then see if you can find some statistics that would make a good chart. Another one that comes to mind is a chart showing which states allow homosexual couples to adopt and which prohibit it by law.

I hope this helps get you started!

Here is my persuasive speech about gay parenting. I need just 5 min to present this speech. Can you please check and advice if any changes have to be made. Thanks

Homosexual couples should have a right for adoption because they can make responsible and loving parents as well as heterosexuals. There is a lot of preconceived misinformation about gay parenting. Such stereotypes about gay parenting that gay parents raise gay kids, children of gay parents have more problems and that gay men are more likely to sexually abuse children are irrelevant. In the few studies conducted on the sexuality of gay parents and their children, there has been no evidence to suggest that the sexual orientation of adoptive parents affects the sexuality of their children.
The US has many children waiting to be adopted. Older children and those with special needs are especially hard to place. Children who fit this category are in foster homes right now with gay parents who want to adopt them. It is unfair to the children to deny them permanent secure homes.
Most children in the US do not live with two married parents. In fact, according to the 2000 census, only 24% homes were composed of a married mother and father with children living at home. The Florida court argues that children are better off raised in a two-parent heterosexual household. In fact, scientific studies have shown that children who grow up in gay households are just as well emotionally and socially as children whose parents are heterosexual. Studies have shown that children are more influenced by their interactions with their parents, then by their sexual orientation. With this in mind, the American Association of Pediatrics supports gay and lesbian couples adopting children.
Finally, there is no legal reason why gays should be denied the right to adopt children. The law only hurts children waiting to be adopted and deprives loving parents who would care for these children.
Greetings!

Your speech has turned out very well! I have only a few minor suggestions:

Homosexual couples should have the right to adopt because they can make responsible and loving parents equally as well as heterosexuals.

Stereotypes about gay parenting include the idea that gay parents raise gay kids, children of gay parents have more problems, and that gay men are more likely to sexually abuse children. These stereotypes are baseless and irrelevant.

only 24% of homes

children are more influenced by their interactions with their parents, than by their sexual orientation.

Good job!

Thanks,
