During the three-year period while Mr. Liu worked with me on his thesis project, he impressed me deeply as a highly motivated, goal-oriented student of lively personality and creativity. He was a key member of our research group for a project I was in charge of developing poorly water soluble drug solid dispersions prepared by hot-melt extrusion. This was the first time in my group to use hot-melt extrusion to prepare solid dispersion and the experiment condition was poor, however, Mr. Liu overcame these difficulties by cooperating with other institutes and he even designed and developed a precise temperature-controlled hot stage to pre-test his formulations. Since part of the drug was heat-unstable, the project temporarily came to a halt. Mr. Liu creatively tackled the problem, under my direction, and thus assumed an important role in the research team. He spent many hours looking up technical literature, and proposed a novel solution with satisfying results. At the time of his graduate, he had applied a Chinese patent and got several papers published in national core journals and international pharmaceutics journals. One of these papers was published in Pharmaceutical Research, which is one of the most influential pharmacy journals in the world.
From my observation, I am confident that Mr. Liu is most suitable for independent study and research. He has established a very solid groundwork in quantitative methods.
