cover letter for postdoctoral position

Eunkyung Kim 1-2  Oct 13, 09, 11:44pm  #
Dear Prof. OOO

I am writing to apply for the postdoctoral position at your department, as advertised in the OOO

I performed the finding of novel proteins involving T cell activation/regulation signaling and the functional studies of their proteins directed by Prof. OOO during MS course. In addition, I tried to efficiently generate the tumor/virus antigen (e.g. Survivin, WT-1, TERT, HCMV-pp65)-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and studied for various factors (e.g. adjuvant, CD4+T, Treg cells) which influence on generating those CTLs during Ph.D. course. I also occasionally participated in Sponsor-Investigator Trial team to treat leukemia patients and supported them with tumor antigen-specific CTLs generated by us. Currently, I'm carrying out the work which is research and development the immune cells, especially NK cells, against tumors.

I'm interested in developing of function for immune cells targeting tumor or virus-infected cells. In particular, which modification (e.g. gene overexpression, gene silencing) of antigen presenting cells (APCs) strongly effects on the induction of immune cells such as cytotoxic T lymphocytes, activated CD4 T or NK cells. I'm also concerned about differentiating and expanding APCs such as dendritic cells from stem cells.

Actually, I do not have excellent English skills but I'm learning those currently. So, I really believe that there are no problems communicating between you and me. In addition, I have been educated and highly trained for the knowledge and skills in immunology as well as cell biology. This is exactly the type of position that I have been looking for, and I am sure that I could successfully contribute to your teams' success. The enclosed CV provides the details.

After you've had an opportunity to review my CV, I'd like to set up an appointment to talk with you further about how my skills and experience could benefit your team. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at (OO)-OO-OOO-OOOO or via e-mail at OOOO. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Respectfully yours,

OOO

I am fixing a few minor errors, but you should have another Ph.D. who is well versed in your studies as well as the English language look it over. I only have enough knowledge to understand the abbreviations...Good luck, Doc! Here is your re-written cover letter!
Blue skies! Jeannie
Dear Prof. OOO

I am writing to apply for the postdoctoral position at your department, as advertised in the OOO

During the MS course, I succeeded in finding the novel proteins involving T cell activation/regulation signaling and the functional studies of their proteins under the guided tutelage of Prof. OOO . In addition, I attempted to generate the tumor/virus antigen (e.g. Survivin, WT-1, TERT, HCMV-pp65)-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and studied for various factors (e.g. adjuvant, CD4+T, Treg cells) which influence propagation of CTLs while studying for my Ph.D. I also participated as a member of the Sponsor/Investigator Trial team to treat leukemia patients and supported them with the very same tumor antigen-specific CTLs of which I previously spoke. Currently, I'm carrying out the work of research and development of immune cells, especially Natural Killer (just kidding, go ahead and abbreviate if that is how you guys do it...) cells, against tumors. I just always liked the name of those particular lymphocytes...
