Global Warming Phenomenon- Research Paper

Sergioc1 1-5 Edited by: Sergioc1  Nov 19, 08, 06:42pm  #
I need help to construct a 1000 word argumentation research paper about Global Warming and how it effects humans. What's tricky about this paper is that I am not allowed to decide or even prove if the Global Warming Phenomenon is true or not. Here is my Thesis Statement :"Although some people think Global Warming is a phase in the Earth's weather
system, the truth is Global Warming is a phenomenon that affects every person and living
organism on the Earth; therefore, the human race should start to take procedures to diminish the side effects of this occurrence." Maybe somebody can get me started with a good intro or give me ideas how to explain this phenomenon with out proving it wrong or right.

Good evening :)

The thing about a paper such as this is that it has to be equally balanced; for each thing that is a "proof" of global warming you have to make sure to present its contradiction. For instance, if you say something like some scientists think that the increase in CO2 emissions is largely from humans, you would have to present the flip side to that, that other scientists say that the CO2 emitted from a single volcanic eruption is greater than human CO2 emissions in one year (for example). The best way to do this, I think, is to start with an outline. First list all of the things you know you want to talk about (for either side) and then list each argument for/against each point. Then you will have a visual layout of your paper before you write it, and you can make sure that it is fair and balanced. That way, no one can say that you are either for or against global warming because you have presented informative data and reasoning to both sides.

I hope this helps!

Your completely correct, but I asked my professor and she said it is ok to acknowledge that the Global Warming Phenomenon was occurring but not to prove it. Meaning I can back up my claim with theories scientist have out there in the net. Also, I like the idea of a balanced paper, but i have to lean more to the, "its real", because I can't forget all through my paper I have to talk about the affects of Global Warming. Thank you very much for your opinion it helped a lot.

Well, I am stuck i can't think of anything else to say. Please help, feel free to edit my essay or give me some advice. This is what i have so far :
For centuries, humans have treated the Earth as a never ending resource, to be utilized and squandered at will. They never cared about the changes, or more specifically, the damage they have caused towards the environment by destroying trees, and ruining the surfaces of the earth which used to be a beautiful view and were the pride of all human beings. Recent years have shown that there is a price to be paid for the negative effects, and the prospect of catastrophic results from global warming have the Earth's human inhabitants scrambling to make improvements before it is too late. As K. Lee Lerner and Brenda Wilmoth report, "Global warming, as used in the popular context, is a scientifically controversial phenomenon that attributes an increase in the average annual surface temperature of Earth to increased atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide and other gases". These increases lead to adverse affects that impact human's daily lives. ----- Help me think of something else to say. Thank you.
As mentioned above, the influences of Global Warming are wide spread; however, there will always be other opinions. James M. Inhofe argues, who is the Senator of Oklahoma, "[Global Warming is the] greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people". He states that the only reason the environmental extremists are exploiting the issue is for fundraising purposes to finance their campaigns. In his statement he emphasizes a book written by Dr. Michael Crichton, a leading medical doctor and scientist, called "State of Fear," which starves on the lies of Global Warming and how scientists exaggerate the problem in order to get grants. Some scientists strongly disagree with these claims of false evidence and accusations. The harsh realty is Global Warming is a Phenomenon that needs to be considered by the world and to start preparing to take actions.
In addition to acknowledging Global Warming, humanity needs to amend their why of living for the better, in order to weaken the affects brought onto by the phenomenon. For example, instead of people going out and buying big expensive trucks that emit tons of carbon dioxide, the leading cause for the greenhouse effect, they could buy little inexpensive hybrid cars, which promised by the engineers of the vehicle, could save them money at the gas pump. Humans might not know they are contributing to Global Warming, but they are. Carbon footprint, as defined by scientists is,
"[A] measure of the impact our activities have on the environment, and in particular climate change. It relates to the amount of greenhouse gases produced in our day-to-day lives through burning fossil fuels for electricity, heating and transportation etc."
This shows that everybody's necessity has a consequence, whether the consumer knows it or not.
All these factors add up to the potentials the phenomenon can induce on humankind. According to National Geographic there are visible impacts from increasing temperatures happening today. For example, glacial retreat, raising sea level, Arctic shrinkage, extreme weather events such as hurricanes, major floods, droughts, associated landslides, storms, ocean and coastal surges, heat waves, and cold snaps are all events associated with Global Warming. Many skeptics would disagree on the matter whether these events have anything to do with Global Warming. One thing is sure the situations are happening know and there needs to be change. If the world continues to ignore the most obvious issues there will be a price to be paid. Not only are the humans going to suffer, but the animals as well.
In the same way, animals have to endure the same fate as humans. In observations from National Geographic, they have noticed an upset in the ecosystem, due to rising temperatures butterflies, foxes, and alpine plants had to modify their location father up north or to higher, cooler areas. In compressions, many other different spices of organisms have found it to hard to live in the places their usually located. In result, predators of the organisms had to follow for survival. In other words, all through Earth the affects are being felt.

I really like your introduction; it is catchy, and it lays out a path for the rest of the paper. I think it's a good rough draft, but make sure you are properly citing the quotations and any summarized sections so that your piece keeps its credibility and you don't have problems with plagiarism accusations. Also, to keep the piece organized, make sure that for each subject you begin a new paragraph; that will keep your audience from becoming intimidated before they read the work.

Keep up the good work!
