Budget - Problem and solution research paper

I have to write a paper about issues in NJ, and proposals and solutions to it, using the book "The World is Flat". I decided to work on the school budget issue.. but I dont know what to do with this topic. Can you please help me think of good "global" and "economic" solutions to this issue? I also need to know about the root cause of this. If you have any other NJ issue that can be considered in a specific area, please suggest it to me..

What exactly is the school budget issue? You are going to have to provide more details if you expect useful feedback, unless someone here happens to be familiar with school budget issues in NJ, and can guess which one you mean.

Maybe you could tax the students for their activities. Any activity that requires membership dues could have 5% added to it to support the student budget. That would be controversial and interesting. Like Sean said, though, it is hard to understand what you need.

Sorry for confusing you. My topic is about the school budget cuts. The government is decreasing the school budget b/c of the national deb/budget.

Is that a book by Friedman? If this is all about globalization, they probably want you to come up with ideas based on networking with people in other places. I keep having funny ideas when I think about it, like, the solution is to outsource the school's office personnel to people in developing countries who will work for less money! Or, you could convert the whole school to online programs and offshore the entire faculty to China.

But if they want a serious solution, it is going to be tough! It probably should be focused strongly on the book by Friedman, right? Is the book central to the assignment? If so, read that book and take notes while thinking of the school's budget cuts as the problem to be solved.

Indeed, if they are open to a creative approach, you may be able to do a great project by suggesting that the faculty be outsourced to another country.

Yes, I would recommend focusing on the book. Friedman is great, and globalization really is fascinating.

I would have thought that you would want to focus on either coming up with alternative methods the school could use to raise money, or on ways the schools could cut costs. I don't know how you would be able to make that global, though. Maybe schools in NJ could look at models of successful schools in developing countries that have long had to make do with much more limited resources?
