This is a kind of blindness. Something is there, available to you, but you cannot access it.
What is it that blinds people in Shakespeare's plays? What is it that causes people to fail to notice something that is obvious to others? I'll give you a hint: Other people deceive us so that we are blind to some things, but we also deceive ourselves sometimes. Other people use trickery to deceive us, but what is the mechanism within us that causes us to render ourselves blind?
