Salary requirements after an interview

Hi guys,
I sent a resume along with cover letter to a potential employer. They responded and we set up an interview, which went well, we established exactly what the job entails and that my skills and interests are perfect for the job. The interviewer emailed me the next day and asked my salary requirements for the job, he wanted to make sure it was in line with my current freelance rate. What do I say and how should the email be written? I have never written this type of email before The employer is a friend of a friend, so far the correspondence is semi casual and to-the-point but I still want to be professional.

Hi [employer],
It was great to meet you too. My salary requirements for this job is in the range of $[number]-$[number] annually.

-[name]

Should I add anything more? that it's negotiable or why the range is what it is?
Thanks for your input.

EDIT: there is another section for this type of correspondence but I'm unable to post in it.

Another run on sentence: The interviewer emailed me the next day and asked my salary requirements for the job. He wanted ...
ha ha, oh, I was correcting this... I thought this was an essay.

Okay, I am the wrong person to ask, because I always negotiate in a way that gives the other person the advantage!
However, here is a tip. He wants you to give a number first, and that will tell him how he can best exploit you, ha ha.

So... seriously, think of an amount that would make you feel okay, and then add about 30%. Let him talk you down to about 15% over what you would be happy with.

But also, if you are young and need experience, maybe you do not mind working for less. It all depends on what you can get. BTW, check out Elance!

Dear kim, I feel the better way to express " I was getting a salary of $1000(your expected salary) for my previous job so i should naturally expect something more". Then they will come for nego... with a salary of $1000 - $1100.

Hmm..IMO, I think "my salary requirements are __" sound a little too demanding, and you don't want to say anything that might drive them to have second-thoughts.

Forgive me, as I'm not very good at this, but if this is something you've never done, don't ask for too much, look into the average salary of that job and maybe add about 10% of it?
