Hi everybody I am new to this forum and I would like some help in my statement of purpose for a PhD in Wind energy. Thank you all.

Dear Members of the committee,

My academic background and my professional experience aims to a specific path, which is research in the fields of renewable energy. Therefore I submit my application for the position of PhD in Wind Energy, which is held by ( Name of the Institute ). I am confident that I have the technical qualifications to meet the research requirements as I strongly believe that completing this PhD will serve my goal of a career as a research expert at an academic or a research oriented organization.

I have completed a five years Degree of Engineering in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the (Name of University) and gradated in November of 2005. My undergraduate education has given me a certain set of skills and strong fundamentals in both computers science and electrical engineering as a result to develop a combinational way of thinking and research capabilities.

Being fascinated by the Automatic Control Systems and Electrical Machines, that I was introduced to in my third year at the university, I had the chance to demonstrate my research abilities conducting my degree thesis with title "Improving the performance of automatic control system by using a PID controller". The thesis was a great project due to the fact that I had to study the behavior of a servomechanism and then to design, construct and manufactory a PID controller in order to reduce the error and improve the performance.

As a result of working on my degree thesis, I have not only gained valuable knowledge and confident in my technical skills but also an important experience working in the lab. Also, I had the chance to expand my workbench skills at a professional level as dealing with simulation, testing and repairing control system boards while working for an automatic controls systems company.

Over the pas three years, I have develop a particular interest in the area of Renewable Energy while working in the filed of construction of wastewater treatment plants and co-generation unites. I have gained an important professional experience as an engineer while working for the project of electrical and thermal co-generation plant using biogas and natural gas. Furthermore, I have enriched my skills learning about EU laws and policy in environmental and energy themes. In additions, while working in other projects I have learned how to estimate and calculate the economical part of a project.

Driven by my passion for research and my interest in environmental and the clean energy field, I have pursued a Master degree in Environmental Engineering and graduated on July 2009 from the (Name of the University). During my Master studies not only I have learned about water, waste, soil and air pollution treatment and management, but also learned about conventional, sustainable and renewable energy and technologies.

Focusing my interest in the area of renewable energy, I have challenged myself performing a research in the Master thesis with title "Energy and economical feasibility of storing photovoltaic solar energy by means of accumulators". Combining my previous technical and economical experience the work result pointed me that I can stand up to the expectations by delivering the final project with a hundred percent success.

In the past I had the opportunity to work in a multinational environment and the work result have shown that I can be equally productive and creative working as part of a team or individual on a project as I am able to perform several tasks at once.

Finally, I believe that life is a constant learning process and I am confident that I have the technical skills and the qualifications that meet the requirements for the PhD in Wind Energy. I am certain that my passion, willingness and ambitious will help me to become a successful researcher.

This is really proffessional sounding! I am just 6 months into school at 53. I am by far no pro, but check your spelling and comma usage. (2nd par.) should read a five year degree & graduated is misspelled; (3rd par.)drop comma after Electrical Machines; (5th par.) Filed should be field & unites should be units.

Comma splice in (6th par.) Should read: During my Master studies, not only have I learned about water, waste, soil and air pollution treatment and management, but I also learned about conventional, sustainable and renewable energy and technologies.

Check last sentence of (7th par.)
(8th par.) comma after 'In the past,'; 'work result has' or 'work results have'; individually on a project,
(9th par.) 1st sentence is a run on sentence; put a comma after process, or make it 2 sentences.
It sounds like it needs to be very professional. The liitle mistakes could make a difference. Like I said, I am by far no pro, but punctuation and writing is what I am studying right now.

Dear Irishiga,

Thank you so much for your time and help.
I have corrected all paragraphs but paragraph 7, which as i read it i understand that there is something wrong with it but i can really defined it. can you please help me with it? what do you suggest?

And one last thing, I am trying to apply for this PhD and they are asking for a cover letter (in which i have to describe my qualifications) and a statement of purpose (in which i have to indicate my areas of expertise and interest). And it seams that i have written both of them in my statement of purpose. Can you give me some ideas on this issue?

I'm not sure what you are trying to say here. Maybe try:
With the combination of previous technical and economical experiences, I am confident that I will live up to the expectations with an aftereffect of one hundred percent success.

A cover letter is the first thing they read. If you don't convince them (breifly) that you are qualified for the position here, they more than likely won't read anything else. Let them know that you know something about the company (so they don't think you picked them out of a phone book.

I hope this helps you!!

Raymond and Kevin, thank you both for your help.
All corrections are made. Thank you so much.

I need to post my cover letter too for correction, can I post it here or do I need to post it under another topic? Really sorry, but I am new to the forum and I really don't know how it works.
