Obtaining a research position - Speech-language Pathology Graduate School Personal Essay

Hi everyone! I am having a very hard time making my personal essay for graduate school flow. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Mushroom, airplane, cowboy, can you hear me now? My mornings have started to resemble a cheap Verizon commercial only the mobile phone is now replaced by a Phonak transmitter. Fortunately for me, no morning is identical. Each day brings new problems, questions, and blessings which could never be obtained from a repetitive TV commercial. I believe that my work as a paraprofessional coupled with the knowledge accrued during my undergraduate studies have provided a solid framework for my continuance as a graduate student in speech-language pathology.

During my time as a hearing impaired paraprofessional I have come across a variety of situations, from changing hearing aid batteries, to making sure that all assistive listening devices are working properly. From day to day a student's receiver may not sync with their transmitter, however, something as easy as switching receivers can do the trick. Whether I'm faced with a large or small task, solving even the simplest of these makes me more prepared for things I might encounter in my future career.

Part of my time during the school day is spent doing speech therapy with students that have cochlear implants. Special focus is given to developing each student's auditory skills while also facilitating understanding of general education subjects. I may have the student repeat a sentence that they hear using pure auditory memory or ask comprehension questions from a story that they read themselves. I believe these hands-on experiences will enrich my education in graduate school as I will be able to apply real life situations to the subject matter I will be studying.

Obtaining a position where I can research and practice specialized interests within my field of study is my ultimate goal. Wayne State University will help me meet this goal by giving me the opportunity to be a part of various areas of research. I am particularly interested in research that faculty member ____________ is conducting in areas of acquired dyslexia and what can be found from studying brain activity by use of Magnetoencephalography. Being able to be a part of the latest research in my field will help make my ultimate professional goal more attainable.

My experiences at work and in my undergraduate studies have reinforced my passion to work as a speech-language pathologist. I know now my next step is to attend graduate school at ____________ where I will be given unmatched experience and opportunities necessary to progress myself in the field and meet my level of passion for it.

"Part of my time during the school day is spent doing speech therapy with students that have cochlear implants. "- be careful saying that you do "speech therapy". I said something like that in my first draft and a prof told me to take it out. Unless you are a speech therapist/pathologist you don't provide therapy. Maybe say "coaching"

I believe these hands-on experiences will enrich my education in graduate school as I will be able to apply real life situations to the subject matter I will be studying. a bit to wordy/redundant. This sentence sound like two similar sentences joined by the word "as".
