I aspire to enroll at the Department of Electrical Engineering at *Purdue University* for a Master of Science degree. I envisage myself ten years from now as a fully-fledged research professional in an organization or a faculty member at one of the leading universities in the field of Optical Communications & Photonics.

My zeal for research received encouragement during my time as an under-graduate student in Electronics and Communication Engineering at The LNMIIT. In my sophomore year I participated in the Bluetooth Innovation World Cup in which I was asked to showcase my idea so that it can be incorporated into a bigger whole for the creation of new products, definitely for the betterment of human-kind. So, I came with an idea which I believed might benefit blind people in a way to find obstacles in their path with the help of Bluetooth Technology. Even though my idea was not selected for the finals of the competition, I received applause from the organizers as well as won a Sensor Toolbox worth $500 as a token of appreciation.

This appreciation motivated me to try out my hand in this sheer technological world but in a specific direction. So, I searched over the internet & contacted Prof. O P Katyal, Distinguished Professor at LNMIIT to guide me how can I make contribution to a particular field of research. He guided me to work in the field of Optical Communication as it is a very interesting field and also since not many of my seniors have worked in this field before. So, I read various articles & was greatly fascinated by the concept of Chaos Theory. So I decided to contribute in the field of Optical Communication. Hence, I approached Prof. Anjan K Ghosh, Professor at DA-IICT (currently acting as Vice-Chancellor of Tripura Central University), one of the pioneers working in this field. By testing my prior knowledge in the field through an informal Viva screening & seeing my enthusiasm & dedication, he readily accepted my proposal to work as a Research Internee for a month & a half at DA-IICT under him. Along with Prof. Ghosh, I worked for the calculation of the Lyapunov Exponent of chaos generated by acousto-optic modulators & to find out the appropriate distribution of the chaotic (random like) sequence. In this research project, a multitude of nonlinear optical systems have been explored to produce chaotic optical signals. This includes different systems such as lasers with external feedback but we found that electro-optical or acousto-optical modulator based systems have a non-linearity with sinusoidal characteristics. I have carried out extensive research to find out values which could best fit to produce the desired result, by trial & error. Our research paper was accepted & published at PHOTONICS-2012, 12th International conference on Fiber Optics & Photonics held at IIT Madras. As my research work was not completed, I still desired to take it to the next level & thus I am still pursued this research work, then I realized that I am fit to carry out research with a calm mind as my patience capability was tested during this research work.

In my sophomore year I attended courses across all domains in Electrical Engineering, which helped me understand issues in electrical communication, signal processing & control. Working in the field of Optical Communications, I was equally motivated to pursue projects in some other fields of communications too such as Digital Signal Processing. For completing course requirements of this course I was asked to do a project along with two other classmates. We worked on Speech Recognition with the help of Wavelet Transform. Our goal was to perform the speech recognition process with the maximum efficiency possible which might not have been achieved yet in any of the previous research. So the voice which was used for recognition was classified into Phonemes & we performed Phoneme matching with the voice of the speaker. In this case, due to the efficiency constraints we were not able to use the voice of the speaker spontaneously but pre-recorded it in the system & then used it for speech recognition. This served the purpose of my project as far as the course & credit requirement was concerned. But, I also took it as a personal challenge to perform the speech recognition by using the voice of the speaker on the spur of the moment instead of your pre-recorded voice and then performing speech recognition with the help of pre-recorded phonemes. I was successful in accomplishing this & eventually wrote a research paper to showcase my ability to be able to design a program which provided high rate of efficiency as compared to the results of previous researches in this field. The paper was accepted at AVSP-2013, 12th International Conference on Auditory-Visual Speech Recognition, Annecy, France. Although the paper was not published due to my inability to attend the conference as it's dates clashed with those of my university's examinations. My work highlighted my ability to multitask & to explore different fields of research while focusing equally on my other academic works. While working for this project to complete the course requirements, I acted as the Research group's leader which enhanced my abilities in Teaching & Leadership & also endowed me the ability of Team management & collaboration which I consider as essential qualities one should posses to succeed in every sphere of life.

After getting an insight of the field of Optical Communications, I felt a feeling alacrity in me to contribute more to this field of research. So, I contacted Prof. Ranjan Gangopadhyay, Distinguished Professor at LNMIIT as well as a pioneer in the field of Optical Communications in India. I proposed to him an idea to set up a full-fledged lab of Optical Communications at our university. He supported my idea & familiarized me with the research work of two of my seniors which they had performed for the same purpose but had not been able to implement successfully. So, I received proper guidance from Prof. Gangopadhyay and both of my seniors & started working on the project. Our aim is to design various lab experiments which could be performed by the students to get an insight of this field of research. Particularly, I am working for the simultaneous GVD & SPM compensation in OFDM based multi segment optical link. I am also working for the implementation of OPC-DRA combination to compensate the effect of GVD & SPM & measurement of the Eye opening penalty for each case of DRA Operation that is forward dual & backward pumping. The project is still in continuation as it is a huge responsibility & I have a firm belief that I will be able to set up this lab before my graduation.

Working along with Prof. Gangopadhyay, I developed my interests to work in other areas of Communications in general which he is currently working in. He offered me a chance to be a part of a project in the field of Cognitive Radio which is nationally funded for Rs 1 crore in association with IIT Delhi & Department of Science & Technology, India. The aim of the project is <<*I will add 1 or 2 lines more here*>>

I studied the physical aspect of communication systems & devices through courses like Principles of Communications and Digital Communications, which gave me a broader outlook on communications at small scales. The course on Optical Communication that I have attended as an Internee at DA-IICT gave me an understanding on the basic techniques in Communications systems. Getting such kind of exposure to different aspects of communications engineering & working with some of the pioneers in the field of communications, I began to appreciate how important it is to understand such complexities of communications to design futuristic products & gadgets which will serve various benefits for the human creed. This is the motivation behind my interest to work & contribute as much as I can in the field of communications, which was endowed in me by the inspirations & goad given by such great practitioners of the field.

I demonstrated consistent performance in my undergraduate academics. My CGPA of 8.3/10 is among the top 25 out of 210 of total number of students in my department. I have taken positive steps to satisfy my growing interests in research. I took up the optimum courses in my chosen areas of study, and strove to learn as much as possible from self-study. Continuous involvement in projects helped motivate me towards research in Electrical & Communication Engineering. I am interested in pursuing graduate studies in the field of Communications, and I believe an MS followed by a PhD degree will prepare me for a research career in the same.

My research internships & research projects has brought me to the activities of the Ultrafast Optics and Optical Fiber Communications Laboratory at Purdue as one the very few laboratories working in this field. Projects with Prof. Anjan K Ghosh & Prof. R Gangopadhyay match my interests in Optical Communications. The work has inspired me; I gave a talk on "Optical Communications & Communications in general "at Oklahoma University, Tulsa, USA via video conferencing. A Similar talk has been presented by me in front of Research Faculty Group & Research Scholars at DA-IICT. I identify my personal research goals with those of the group, and I am sure I'll be an asset to the research community at Purdue University.

I know it might appear quite long, but i will definitely make it terse after your review on it. Please point out any mistake you find (Style, Grammatical, Flow, etc).

Hoping for an early response.

Thanks in Advance!

Thanks for your reply aster0224!

What exactly do you mean? Like, should i explain about whether i would carry out my research further or join a company or something like that. Is this what you want me to add?

By the way, i have already added a line which states that "I see myself as working in some Big firm or be a research pioneer & professor in one of top schools in the world".

Hoping for an early response. Thanks in Advance!
