Personal Statement for MSc in sustainable energy systems

Hello all, i'm very glad i found your forum. Can you help me with a Statement I'm writing for a MSc in sustainable energy systems? Thanks

energy generation is a top priority worldwide

Looking back in my life, there has always been a strong connection between me and the field of engineering. As a kid, I used to dismantle my toys in order to discover the smallest parts that they were made of. Later, during my adolescent years, I found out that I had a strong inner passion for mathematics and physics. Those were my favorite courses at school and I was always interested in taking part in related competitions for children. Soon, I realized that the filed of engineering would be an excellent choice for my future studies. As a result, my first choice when I graduated high school was the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. It worths mentioning that, in my finals, at my last year of high school, I had the best scores in my class, for which I earned a scholarship for the first year of my studies.

During my studies, I had the opportunity to discover a wide range of subject areas, like computer science, telecommunications, electronics, automatic control and electric power. After the 5th semester of my studies I was called to choose my specialization field and I decided that the Electrical Energy Sector suits me best. My decision was based upon the fact that I was fascinated by the importance of electrical energy in our modern world. Through the courses I obtained at that sector, I was given the chance to extensively study the principles and functionalities of electrical energy systems. Undoubtedly, some electrical energy subjects, such as electrical machines, electromagnetic field, power electronics and electric power plants, drew my attention from that moment on. The idea of a career in electrical engineering started to develop in my mind and shortly it became a life dream.

Once I completed my studies, it was obvious to me that energy generation, combined with sustainable development, is regarded as a top priority nowadays. Also, being an IEEE Spectrum's subscriber, I often read analytical articles regarding the problems of greenhouse gas emissions by conventional electricity generating methods, which fully justifies the need of using renewable energy sources. Our planet is in critical state and we need to change the way we were thinking till now. It is time to begin abandoning fossil-fuel based electricity generation, in favor of implementing green energy.

Bearing these in mind, I have decided to apply for postgraduate studies in order to broaden my knowledge in the field of sustainable energy. By applying to the xxxxx programme, I am aiming to enhance my knowledge of clean fossil-fuels, distributed energy systems and energy economics.

Although I am applying as an international student and I am going be in a foreign country, I have no doubt that I will succeed in completing my Masters Degree in the UK, because I am an social and outgoing person who is keen on travelling and discovering new cultures. In addition, I can speak, apart from my mother tongue, two foreign languages, English and German. Moreover, since I have worked in the "Customer service for broadband connections" department of the Hellenic Organization of Telecommunications, I have gained the ability work under pressure. At present, I am serving my 9-month mandatory military service in the Hellenic Army. Having considered my qualifications, the Army positioned me in the Office of Computing and Research in xxxxxx. In this militarized environment, I have learned to cooperate with others and work under strict deadlines.

Consequently, the prospect of studying in England at postgraduate level fills me with enthusiasm. I feel that the xxxxxxx MSc program would be an excellent way in which I could further my passion into both higher education and a career beyond. I look forward to making full use of the opportunities afforded to me at your university.

Look for places where you can trim away unnecessary words and make it stronger:
As a kid, I used to dismantle my toys in order to discover the smallest parts. that they were made of.

It is worth mentioning that, in my finals at during my last year of high school, I had the best scores in my class, for which I earned a scholarship for the first year of my studies. ---- After this, ad a short sentence of about 10 words, a sentence that says something about this knack you seem to have and your high hopes for making god use of it. That is what I would do.

Then move on to paragraph 2:
During my studies, I had the opportunity to discovered a wide range of subject areas, like the __________ of computer science, telecommunications, electronics, automatic control and electric power.

(Above), this changes it so that you are talking about a particular idea, rather than just listing things.

No comma necessary here:
It is time to begin abandoning fossil-fuel based electricity generation in favor of implementing green energy.

:-)

Very impressive!!
