i have written 2 SOP drafts and want to know which one is more likely to get me an admit in good universities.

1.) My background:
I have learned to work against time and visualize which helped me to bring designs and concepts made on CAD software to real time utilization. I was fortunate to have begun with a good early Education and as I grew, my interests and ability were inclined towards the physical nature of the Universe. My inquisitiveness towards applied science tempted me to opt for Math, Physics and chemistry in my higher Secondary education. Post my higher secondary education, I realized that Engineering would be the area which will help me to learn, explore and implement the concepts learned in higher secondary. Moreover, my creative skills and powerful imagination incorporated with my diligence channeled me to take up course which will compliment my qualities. Thus, mechanical engineering was the way to go.

The thirst for knowledge has been the ultimate goal in my life. We are in an era of global Technological change. This change leaves us a challenge to cope up, and I want to be a part of this technological challenge. During my Undergraduate study I was exposed to various real time problems solving, and decision making circumstances which thus helped me to become an engineer. To me, it was never sufficient to read a concept or a book in comparison to applying them. As a result I joined FSAE (Formula student- Society of Automotive Engineering) team to enhance and implement my bookish knowledge. I always wondered during higher Secondary education, how can a computer design could come to real life and make someone happy? When I joined my Team, Triumphant Races, team of Undergraduate engineers, I got the answer to this. I realized that it is something like giving birth, giving life to a dream. Later, as I got involved in designing & manufacturing, my thirst for knowledge waxed. To satiate my thirst and fulfill my ambitions, I have decided to pursue the Master's program in Mechanical Engineering. The need for exposure to a wider environment has prompted me to seek an opportunity to study in United States. With the advent of Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM), it was necessary for me to learn various softwares like, AUTOCAD 2010, pro-E, Solid works, ANSYS to be in synergy with manufacturing procedures.

To tell you more about my interest, my final year project 'Research, design and fabrication of a Formula 1 Racecar prototype' which aims of designing a single seat, open wheel, lightweight and reliable car and fabricating it, was an opportunity to apply my 3 years of experience and implement successfully. My role was being COO (chief operating officer) of this project. As a COO, I got the opportunity to monitor designing and manufacturing of this project car. I was designated knowing my experiences in engineering design competitions both NATIONAL (Supra SAE India 2012, held at Buddha International Circuit, Noida) and INTERNATIONAL (Formula Student Germany 2013, held at Hockenheimring, Germany) events. In addition to this, I was in charge of managing out social marketing, logistics, deadlines and cash flows for its success. I can confidently call myself an Undergraduate engineer, because I had dreamt, designed and then achieved what I desired. To reiterate my intention to pursue Master's program, I want to get involved in research work. Although there is a vast scope for research in this area, I want to get involved in designing and manufacturing.

During and after graduate

My undergraduate degree exposed me to a vast topics ranging from basics of Electrical machines, Basic electronics, Basic thermodynamics and Kinematics to more advanced courses such as Applied thermodynamics, Mechatronics , CNC machines, Manufacturing Process, Automotive Engineering etc. and I got fascinated by the way just feeding few numerical commands can turn a virtual design into a real life component. In addition to designing and manufacturing, automobile concepts also enthrall me to a greater extent. I would like to gain more in-depth knowledge of designing evolution and thus want to contribute to it. In 5 years from now, I see myself working on my own innovative project. I want to go further with my motive of dreaming, designing and achieving. In addition to this I see myself being an automotive engineer standing in Formula 1 racecar pit or maybe driving one. For all these dreams to come true I need to enhance my learnt concepts through applying and improvising.

Why this university?

After going through your website and its varied research programs, I found that I will be able to endeavor on various domains and also develop a sense of responsibility, self-reliance and characteristic of the American culture. It will also help to work with people from different culture and would thus help me in learning global standards and help me judge worldwide challenges or competitions; I will be facing on my way towards my dreams.

** Research **

Conclusion

I will be very grateful if I'm granted a research fellowship or assistantship because in addition to reducing financial burden on me, it will help me to go a long way in preparing for research work. I am looking forward towards a challenging career where I will be questioned and will be of exacting for my knowledge and time but I'm confident that I will be complementing them with my sincerity and hard work. I believe I will be a suitable applicant for such research work knowing the background and experience I gained over my three year engineering.

2.)
I always believed one way or the other, man's curiosity is a part of the evolution in technologies burgeoning these days, and thus I want to contribute towards it. I had an unknown penchant towards engineering concepts right from my childhood, although I didn't conceptual understanding at that time. As I grew up, I realized I enjoyed analysing and understanding the working of automobiles, starting from my toys, to making my own Formula student Car. As a result I took up mechanical engineering to satiate my thirst for knowledge and contribute towards evolution of automobiles.

Admission to Bachelor's degree in engineering is through qualifying an All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE) taken by 100,000 students each year. For qualifying this test, one should have good analytical and quantitative skills. My performance helped me to get Mechanical Engineering as my Undergraduate major at Mumbai University, affiliated to AICTE. During my first year i didn't like my college very much as we were introduced to pre-requisite engineering classes which were already taught in my higher secondary, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). As a result of my declining interest, I flunked in 2 of my exams. Later, as I stepped into second year and came in contact with few alike engineering enthusiasts and thus joined a Formula student team. I aced their personal interview and tasks they put forth to confirm if the candidate is worth a team member. I joined as an intern and helped them to compete in Formula Student Germany 2012 via helping in the manufacturing work. In this competition you design, conceive and fabricate a single seat, lightweight, open wheel, and Formula 1 prototype in compliance to standard rules specified by F-SAE (formula- Society of Automotive Engineering). In addition, you convince weekend race car enthusiasts to buy your product based on its various marketing aspects like frugal costs, its pollution resilience, reliability, etc. Post FSG-2012 event, I got a chance to represent my college as a team member in Supra SAE-India 2012, held at Buddha International Circuit, Noida. We were nominated for Innovation Award, as we had implemented monoshock suspension. Unfortunately, it didn't go the way we had dreamt. I remember I was standing outside our pit with my best friend and we were looking at all other teams. I was looking at other team members, few happy and many with their shattered dreams like us. I told my friend that this is my future, this is where you will find me if some day we lose contact. It was second time when I realized there is nothing fascinating to me like engineering involved automobiles, first being my childhood tinkering of toy-cars.

As we embarked on a new season of Triumphant Racers (Undergraduate level SAE Team) legacy i.e., competing in Formula student Germany 2013, I was given the responsibility of designing next year's braking system as well as monitoring production work. The daunting task of 2013 season was to start fabricating our prototype from scratch. I was intimidated by knowing the fact that I have 2 different responsibilities and have to manage my academics too. Fortunately, I managed both properly and came up with a braking system in 2012 itself, which is proved to be the best so far. It is best in a way that it contains locally available parts which proved to be cost effective as well as reliable design. After my 5th semester examinations we had our registration quiz for Formula Student Germany competition. We aced this quiz and were one of the five teams from India, to register and thwarting around 700 teams from all over the world. This was the third realization that I'm on my dream path. After the registration, our work accelerated and production work took a swing. One day I returned home hands drenched in grease, machine coolant all over my jeans, and few cuts in my arms and hands. My mom was shocked to look at this unkempt appearance. While cleaning my hands, I was looking at the dirty water coming out from my hand and it brought a smile to me that I'm doing what makes me happy, and moving towards where my future lies. My future lies in bringing virtual designs to real life. After this incident, I worked so that I can see how dark the turbid water can go and that motivated me to work days and few nights too.

In my final year of undergraduate degree I took the project of 'Research, design and fabrication of a Formula Student Racecar to next level, competing in two events in the same year 2014, and thus, I was designated as Chief Operating Officer (COO). My role as a team member was to manage every deadline of work ranging from technical to non technical work. It was a time for me to prove and utilize my knowledge and managing skills which I hoarded from topics ranging from the very basics of Electrical machines, Basic electronics, Basic thermodynamics and Kinematics to more advanced courses such as Applied thermodynamics, Mechatronics , CNC machines, Manufacturing Process, Automotive Engineering etc. during my undergraduate degree and practical experience. I did my work so gracefully that I was awarded 92 marks in my project work. The pleasure of learning was augmented by the fact that I received continuous support from my professors and a great team of engineering enthusiasts.

Intentions:
My intention to take up a step forward in research and development in mechanical engineering is based on my previous experiences of designing and bringing them to life. 5 years from now, I see myself working on my own innovative project. I want to go further with these experiences and gain more in-depth knowledge to fulfill my dream of being a part of the engineering firm or standing in a Formula 1 pit and maybe driving concept cars. After learning about *research* going on in your university, I'm more excited to gel with your pioneering team. As a suitable applicant for such research work by knowing the background and experience I gained over my three year engineering from intern to COO, I'm confident that I will be a beneficial addition.

conclusion:
I strongly feel, being with people with same future goals, proper guidance and research oriented faculty, will help me grow my knowledge and experience, and my graduation study would be an exciting endeavor. The fact that university of *** stands unique with its infrastructure, faculty and resources motivates me to be a part of it. Furthermore, I feel my qualifications make me a prospective student for Masters Degree. I hope that you would consider my confidence by accepting me into your esteemed institution.

Babandee, Both your essays are quite informative but do not follow the required information that should be contained in a statement of purpose. In order to write an effective SOP just present your responses the 4 important aspects of an SOP. These questions that you have to answer are:

1. What is your current experience in the field of interest you are applying to?
2. How will an advanced degree in this field help you professionally?
3. What current seminars or trainings have you undergone that will show the logical next step for your profession? You can briefly mention your college studies in this part.

4. What are your future plans and how will completing this degree help you achieve those goals?

These are the questions that directly relate and reveal the purpose for your advanced studies. Just answer these questions and you will have a well written and well developed statement of purpose that you can use for any master university application you wish to submit it to.
