Please provide valuable suggestion on the content...Felt like my inspiration in the childhood was quite lengthy. still holding to it, till I get a feedback.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
There is a proverb in India which says 'What you know is as small as the size of sand in your palm, what you do not know is as big as the size of the universe'. This is very true in the field of Computer Science. No matter how much we learn there is always an option to improvise. Having 3+ years of experience as a software programmer I have been fed with the knowledge of development, installation, and implementation of computer systems and applications. A Masters in Computer Science from University of XXX will provide enough opportunities to add to my intellectual knowledge and will be first step towards my ambition of creating something innovative and novel.
My acquaintance with Computer was in the 6th grade. I was amazed by the big white box but I had no idea what it was. The first thing my dad ran was a DOS game called Prince of Persia. I was thrilled by the colors I saw on the monitor. I was happy about game but what really caught my attention were the pixels on the screen. what those colored squares are? How did they get there? I was under total astonishment wondering how it was possible. At that moment I wanted to know how it worked, what made it work, what made the image to perform the action as I pressed the controls? My curiosity so I high I decided to learn how to develop something like that. At that age I didn't even realize I chose my career. I guess I could say I'm still not happy with the knowledge I have gained. I want to learn more and more to quench my thirst. To me learning IT technologies is not just for finding a job and making money it is to fulfill my thirst and curiosity.
In my higher secondary, my new life started excitingly with structured programming of C. I was amazed with the capabilities of structured programming and how much one could achieve with it. I was mesmerized by the amount one could achieve through programming and I was totally enthralled. As the course progressed, my curiosity and the desire to learn more about Computer Programming grew.
After high school I was so happy about entering the university for bachelor of technology in information technology. Little did I know that I had a long way to go before I can achieve my dream. Learning about the top-down design model, coding in separate modules or sub-modules and reusing them were interesting. In my junior year I had to do a library management system project. I had to complete the project using SDLC and Java as the programming language. The SDLC process is a long and ongoing process. I felt like a true professional after completing the course. Learning and working on each phase of the SDLC process (planning, analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance) was simply marvelous. It is truly a process every IT professional needs to know. For my senior year project I did an e-commerce website using Visual Studio 2003 (ASP.Net & C#.Net). An online website, selling computer accessories and parts with shopping cart feature. It also includes validation of visa credit card. The module does not perform an actual transaction but just the card number validation using Luhn algorithm. Also I presented a paper on "High Performance Computing" in which I won a third prize.
The demise of my father during my undergraduate pushed me to the state of depression. My grades fell apart. All the hard work went in vain in one semester. By the end of the semester I was able to get my head straight and seek professional help. I had no clue what was happening to me since it was the first time I had depression. Soon enough I was able to get back on track with the help of medication. It was very hard at first to even sit down to study with my book but with strong determination I over came my obstacles. I finally achieved one part of my dream my bachelor degree. With the struggle I endured I truly understood the meaning of the saying "knowledge is wealth". The feeling I felt was truly something else. I was able to continue my success into getting a job.
I feel really thankful to my school who created an opportunity to get trained and certified in C and Java by an IBM authorized training partner. I absolutely loved working with Inheritance, Threads and Generics. It was also an opportunity to prove that I am really good in Computers, which is my area of interst. Proudly I was the only one to come up with an 'A' grade. I got fascinated towards certifications. The certifications I got from IBM motivated me to purse more certifications. I simply didn't want to pass the exam and say I got certified as few of my colleagues did. I took it as a challenge to get the highest score. I passed Sun Certified Java Programmer (SCJP) with 100%. I am also a Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) with 95% and International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) certified tester. To prove as a worthy candidate for post graduate I decided to take the GRE exam. In Quantitative I scored 770 and a total of 1250.
When I entered ABC Ltd., as a Software Developer it was a great opportunity for me to apply the knowledge I have gathered and also get hands on experience in programming languages and database systems. My responsibilities included UML designing, requirements analysis, writing business logic and creating and maintaining the database systems. I strongly encouraged cooperative interaction between team members, encouraging all staff members to attend training. I gave seminars on 'Application life cycle management' and 'Importance of code clean up'. I also volunteered to conduct a training session on Java for Sun certification. It was a huge success and I was awarded "The best employee of the year 2008".
I have gone through the web site of University of XXX and have realized that the excellent faculty and high standards of research opportunities available within the department and interdisciplinary would provide an ideal environment for intellectual development in my chosen field of interest. Some special areas of interest are in the fields of Data Structures, Database management systems and System Architecture. Focusing on these I would like to be a part of the research in the area of Domain-Specific Modeling Languages under the guidence of Dr. xyz. Also the diversity of the student body will open my mind to new influences, new ideas and new ways of doing things to work at the forefront of the technology with the ability to find innovative solutions to the changing needs.
Continuous progress is a key to success. The field of application of technology is what interests me the most. I want to acquire the learning that will enable me to contribute to the development of a new software, which can improve efficiency, and accuracy of work in varied spheres. I strongly believe pursuing Masters from University of XXX will fulfill my desire to make a lasting contribution to the field.
