Hello Moderators,

I have written my SOP for admission to MS in US university in Computer science. I put lot of efforts to come up with this. Your valuable response is much needed.

Along with the grammar suggestions please provide comments on SOP content.

1. Staring para.
2. Should I include more about my experience.
3. Concluding section.
4. Any other comment if you like. :)

===================================================================
Computers have completely engrossed our digital world. Starting from sending an E-mail to searching content in Google we use complex network of computers around the world. I was attracted to this subject during my undergraduate studies and my experience at XXX and YYY whetted my desire to pursue a research a career in Computer Networks.

A solid technical foundation was laid during my undergraduate study at XXX. My exploratory nature helped me to learn far more than what I did in my academic course. My excellent scores in lab subjects shows my determination to find the practical application of theoretical knowledge.

Although I liked Computer Science as a subject, my area of interest grew towards Computer Systems. So I decided to go through the experience of developing a server and client applications during my engineering as a project assignment. I was impressed by the power of the small piece of code which abstracted all the complexities of underlying mechanism. This beautiful experience instigated the desire in me to learn more about the computer networks.

My final year project Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) gave me the experience I was looking for. My study was focused on facilitating the use of Peer-to-peer (P2P) technology in VOIP, there by reducing the load on central servers. I successfully implemented the project under the guidance of Prof XXX. This guided independent work gave me a good understanding of the theoretical, experimental and computational skills required in Computer Science.

My profound interest in network programming brought me to XXX Networking Lab to work as network protocol engineer. It was funded by XXX to develop and enhance the network stack and tools of their XXX operating system.

My initial days at Lab were very frustrating as I was not able to cope up with the technical challenges I faced. But my perseverance to succeed helped me to gain expertise and I started to contribute to the project. I played a pivotal role in enhancement of products Gated, Routed and Kerberos. I gained sound knowledge about routing protocols RIP V1,RIP V2, BGP, OSPF while working in the lab. Also I participated in implementing encryption algorithm des-cbc-crc (RFC3961) in the Kerberos application suite under the guidance of my mentor XXX.

I was selected as a distinguished member of the team comprising 30 individual members by our Project Manager for my contribution to the project. Apart from learning, I also gained the qualities needed to work under pressure and deadline. The concept of learning, accountability for the work at hand gave me a greater focus.

My tenure at XXX Lab came to an end when I decided to enhance my expertise and moved to YYY. It is amazing to become a part of diverse team comprised of engineers from all over the world, working in the YYY's cutting edge server technology. My work here involves optimizing the network utilization in clustered environment. My experience at YYY helped me to grow as person and also ingrained the qualities needed to be a team player. I still continue to work at YYY.

I have been actively involved in Open Source software development. I have started a open-source project- YYY as an open-source alternative to many close-source programs to help students to improve their academic English and it is currently hosted at sourceforge.net.

Nothing more pleasures me than coming out winner from a challenging situations. During my tenure at YYY and XXX, I excelled well when I put to extreme conditions, whether it is to come up with a solution to critical issues or to finish projects within deadline. I believe a research career in my desirable domain will give me a lot of opportunities and challenges to grow and a master's degree with specialization in Computer Network is the first step towards it.

I have selected -- University for my graduate studies, as I found that the research work going at -- Lab on -- perfectly match with the field of my interest. Also department website reveals faculty like Prof. -- involved in extensive research in the field of --. It would be great opportunity for me study and work in such an environment which is already so active in my desired field. At the same time I am confident that given the opportunity, I can contribute to the ongoing research with my educational and industry experience.

Therefore I would be obliged to secure an admission to the -- university and at the same time I am confident that will be able to maintain high standards at your university.

^I may be wrong here, but I think this is just a filler.

^This would be a perfect chance for you to prove how you managed to learn more than what was prescribed in the academic curriculum. Take advantage of this space, rather than just stating an achievement and not backing it up.

Thanks Faisal...
Actually in first two lines I want to show that the CN is an important domain and I want to work in it.

Anyway after your suggestion I though that I will approach it in straight words without any convolutions.

Here is the new para:

My interest in Computer Network begun during my undergraduate studies which later on shaped my decision to pursue a professional career at XXX and YYY. After working in this domain, I feel my aptitude lies in the research aspect of the subject. So to fulfil my ambition to pursue a research career in computer science, I am applying to the Master's degree program at XXX.

I am also working on the second suggestion.

Please provide your valuable opinion.

Sorry for multiple posts... But I came up with intro para.. I think it states what I am looking for in MS.

My interest in Computer Network has fuelled my decision to pursue careers at XXX and YYY. After working for three years, I feel, I enjoy the research aspect of the subject but my limited knowledge is becoming an obstacle in my path of exploration. After having a good understanding of it, I feel this is the right time to go for a masters degree, which not only broaden my horizon of knowledge but also help me to pursue a professional research career in the subject matter.
