Hello.
please someone help me to review my esssay (SOP)

I am pleased to submit my "Statement of Purpose" in support of my application for pursing study in PhD ENGINEERING at your esteemed university. I have completed my M.Sc degree in Petroleum Exploration Engineering from University Of Tehran, Iran; and B.Sc degree in Geology at the same university.

I come from a cultured and well-educated family with strong morals and values. My father is a government-employee, and My mother is extremely well cultivated house wife. My parents have provided me with continuous encouragement and guidance to study and to work hard to acquire my goal in life. They have not only been my guidance in the academic career but also have shaped me to be a better human being. I used to live in one of Iran's most pleasant climate regions till my 18th years old. Minoodasht, a city that has beautiful mountains, rivers and the forest has placed Northeast Golestan Province. The environment I grew up cultivated in me an obsession with nature. With the lapse of time, this obsession developed into an impulse to probe into the secrets of nature, an impulse which prompted me to choose geology as my specialty when entering college. Although I had an inborn fascination with nature, my real understanding of geology started with the systematic education I received in this specialty at the university, and during my education at University of Tehran, my interest specialized to the Petroleum Exploration field.

In 2002, I took part in the undergraduate university entrance exam and was accepted with high rank (4000/450,000) to study Geology at University of Tehran, the most competitive university in the country. I put a great effort to be successful in my courses and my research. My GPA during B.S. was 17.11/20.00, which put me among top 10% of the department. Following my graduation in 2006 I could get the 36th rank in the nation-wide entrance exam for master of Petroleum Exploration Engineering. Fortunately, I could get admitted in the same university.

The first year of undergraduate college curriculum were general courses in Mathematics, Physics, English language and Islamic Knowledge. In the second year of my studying, I became a member of a team to making a topographic map of an area around Tehran concerned with the topographic description of a place, including the use of contour lines showing elevation. It was my first experience of doing practical work, and I discovered my good skills in a team working such as cooperation and responsibility there. We as a team did a great job on that project. While in my third year of undergraduate study, I worked on Economical geology of Shahmirzad area (Semnan, Iran) with my classmates by Dr. Bazargani in this project, I have learned many Geology Field techniques plus having experience of team working. In my final year, I learnt the concepts of petroleum geology, organic geochemistry and I decided that continue my MS.c in the petroleum field. In addition, we have another joint project working on Tectonics and stratigraphy of Mill-Dochah area (Qum, Iran). Along with my educational activities, I accustomed more with geology. The science of geology encompasses a multiplicity of subjects that pose important challenges in comprehensive qualities, analytical skills and holistic thinking about the part of the prospective geologists. This nature of geology accorded perfectly with my temperament of meeting challenges. Petroleum Geology, Sedimentology, Geochemistry, Basin Analysis, Field Geology, Tectonics, Organic Geochemistry and Stratigraphy were among the most important courses that enabled me to lay a solid professional foundation. I especially liked the arduous field trips because they allowed me to taste the joy of overcoming challenges. In summary, I can say after four years studying geology I fall in love with petroleum exploration and any field-related hydrocarbon.

Following my graduation in 2006, I started the Master's program. In the first year of my studying, I had two visiting teachers in University of Tehran. Mr. M. Jahdi who cultivated in me interests in geophysics application in petroleum exploration, and Dr. Zare, who made me interested in doing research about induction earthquakes affect on hydrocarbon reservoirs. However, unfortunately, I couldn't have my thesis with them because they were out of University Staff. So after two months of studying and searching in resources and articles, I have participated in Organic Gechemistry during my graduate studies. My thesis for the Master's program was Primary Geochemical investigation of probable source rocks of petroleum and natural gas in Nosoud Area (west of Kermanshah Province, Iran). In this project, I traveled into the area to do field reconnaissance. we needed total of 22 cuttings and nine core samples that were subjected to geochemical investigations. The methods that I used for my project were Rock Eval Pyrolysis, Vitrinite Reflect (Ro), Clay Mineral Analysis, Gas Chromatography (GC), Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GS MS). I did all these Geochemical experiments at Research Institute Of Petroleum Industry (RIPI) and for interpretation of them Dr Kamali (one of my supervisors) and Dr Memariani helped me. Writing this thesis will help perfect my basic knowledge in geology and research skills. Other research projects I participated in include consideration of Tectonics and stratigraphy of petroleum systems of Kermanshah (Iran).

During my master studying, I attended a domestic conference, The 12th Symposium of Geological Society of Iran. Seminar on the Geochemical investigation of probable source rocks of petroleum in Nosoud Area, west Kermanshah Province, Iran. In addition, I sent a paper to Iranian Society of Mining Engineering (IRSME(, and my paper was about Assessment of probable source rocks of petroleum in Azgale Area with Geochemical studies, west Kermanshah Province, Iran.

When it comes to hobbies, I am interested in Art, psychology, music and sports like swimming and aerobics. My main free studying has been on psychology, and my favorite psychologists are Sigmund Freud (Austrian) and Dr. Farhang Holakouee (Iran). I am also strongly interested in learning foreign languages. I've known little Arabic. I also enjoy mountain climbing and picnics with my friends.

I know that pursuing a PhD degree in abroad will lead me to many obstacles, but I am confident that I will be able to overcome them relying on my determination and hard work. Iran is a developing country with big resources of oil and gas and other mineral sources. I know that my country needs experienced and well-educated professionals in the field of petroleum engineering. At present, there is still a big gap between Iran and advanced Western countries in terms of the technology of petroleum prospection and development. Based on a careful consideration of the present situation in the scientific and technological development of Iran's petroleum industry, I would like to apply for a PhD program in Geological Science, with specific emphasis on Petroleum Geology, Organic Geochemistry, Basin Analysis, Exploration Geophysics and Petrophysics.

Teaching my knowledge has been one of my pleasures and attachments. I like doing industrial and research projects as a part of my work as well as teaching. The Ph.D. degree would enable me to combine both these preferences. So Subsequent to earning a Ph.D. degree, I would like to look for a faculty position at a university.

x University comes on top of my priorities for doing my PhD program. It is a top-level research institution in petroleum geoscience. The specialty has a very strong faculty and advanced research facilities. It offers research-intensive programs and many field trips. In addition, there are well-known professors at Stanford University ... Department with research interests similar to mine that altogether make Stanford University the best choice for me.

Such an academic environment agrees very well with my academic and research interests. I believe that each person is made for a special work; he can do it best and no one can do it, as well as he can. The duty of individuals is to discover their abilities and their positions according to their talent and capacity. I love being in the university environment; as a part of my duty, I think, search and select this university as a suitable place for my continuing study. And I hope you help me to guide through that best position by considering my abilities and determining if I can do my best output there or not. I wish, by studying and working hard, I can enhance my knowledge of the world, not only for providing the daily demands of people but also as a pace in eventual felicity of mankind.
