My intended area of specialization, molecular neuroscience, seeks to answer questions about human nature and behavior at the level of biomolecules. In particular, my research interests are-

ˇ Identification of molecular players responsible for specific neurological functions,
ˇ Understanding the role of genetic variation in affecting susceptibility to neurological disorders,
ˇ Understanding the genes and molecular pathways of neural circuitry, especially glial-neuronal interactions.
At UC Riverside, I am interested in the ongoing projects at Drs Dahanukar, Ray, Korzus, Fiacco and Stanley's labs.
I wanted to work in research since high school and have strived during college to make myself fit for it. I have shown a good academic performance and have taken elective courses to strengthen my basics and broaden my knowledge. To identify my research interests, I did internships in several fields, each experience leaving some positive impact-

In 2010, a workshop on rDNA technology in Hyderabad taught me vital techniques and improved my lab skills.
In 2011, I worked at the Bioremediation lab of Tata Steel, conducting an independent research project on phytoremediation of wastewater and learning several aspects of research methodology. The same year, an interest in medical biotech led me to an enriching internship in pathology at Tata Main Hospital, Jamshedpur, focusing on histological, biochemical and microbiological techniques.

In 2012, an internship at Human Molecular Genetics lab of Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotech, Kerela involving work on SNP genotyping of neurological patients helped me realize that molecular neuroscience is the field I should take up for my research career.

I attended symposia such as- International Symposium on Environmental Exposures to Mutagens and Carcinogens on Human Health, National Cell Biology Conference, National Conference on Computational biology & Chemistry and Satellite Symposium on Neurobiology of Cognition, to remain abreast of current research.

I also have some teaching experience as a peer tutor for academically weak students in college.
I am currently working on computational SNP analysis of autism and as part of this, have 2 posters and a review article (attached separately).
I am also currently doing a research project at Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata under Dr Chakrabarti on understanding the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in prion mediated neurodegeneration using confocal microscopy and Western blotting.

After completion of my PhD in molecular neuroscience, I aim to continue working in research, ideally at a university which would fuel my passion for neuroscience research while allowing me to act upon my love for teaching.

I believe that I can add value to your institution by way of my research and academic work. If given a chance, I shall strive to the best of my ability to be deemed worthy of the opportunity.

ˇ Identification of molecular players responsible for specific neurological functions, WHAT FUNCTIONS?
ˇ Understanding the role of genetic variation in affecting susceptibility to neurological disorders, WHAT DISORDERS?
ˇ Understanding the genes and molecular pathways of neural circuitry, especially glial-neuronal interactions.

At UC Riverside, I am interested in the ongoing projects at Drs Dahanukar, Ray, Korzus, Fiacco and Stanley's labs. WHAT ARE THE PROJECTS?

THIS PARAGRAPH SEEMS OUT OF PLACE AND UNNECESSARY - IF YOU GIVE GOOD EXAMPLES OF YOUR INTERESTS AND WORK, YOU DONT' NEED TO SAY THIS HERE...

I wanted to work in research since high school and have strived during college to make myself fit for it. I WOULD SHORTEN YOUR EXAMPLES - IT READS LIKE A LAUNDRY LIST AND YOU DONT NEED TO REPEAT WHAT IS LISTED IN YOUR CV. SELECT THE STRONGEST AND ELABORATE - THREE MAXIMUM!

There is no provision to upload my CV in the application form. Hence the "laundry list". So, should I select the important internships and explain them? My strong point in the application is my internships. I would really like to include the information in some way.

Pls advise.
