Good morning.

In regards to the passive tone, the biggest "key" to remember is, "Don't tell your readers what you want to tell them, just TELL them."

For instance:
"I'd like to thank the parents for..."
Is passive. It should be:

"Thank you to the parents for..."

Or:
"I would just like to say that so-and-so is a remarkable author..."
Should be:
"So-and-so is a ramarkable author..."

An active tone is just that: active. It takes part and takes a stance in your writing and speaking. Don't "want" or "like" to do or say something, just do it! :)

I hope this helps.
