My teacher told me to write an essay based on the topic "What I think about growing up". I suck at essay writings, can anyone tell me the things that I must know before attempting to write it out? I would appreciate your help, thank you!

Start by brainstorming your topic. What are the different ways you could interpret the question? What aspects are there to growing up? Which ones interest you? Why? etc. Then try to identify a common thread that could connect your ideas. This idea will likely become the nucleus of your thesis statement.

Since the topic is "What I think about growing up" it can be personel so decide whether you like growing up and going through change or if you don't like it. After making your decision start brainstorming by making a list of different ideas you would like to include in your essay to support your decision. If you decide that you don't like growing up then you can put in some of the various things you will miss about being younger. Or if you decide you look forward to growing up then talk about some things that you are excited to do when at a certain age.

What do you think about growing up? Try free-writing: Get a pencil and paper, set a timer, and just write without worrying about style, grammar, or organization. Let you mind wander. Keep writing. If your mind goes blank, just write "what do I think? what do I think?" until something comes to you. After 10 or 15 minutes, look back at what you have written. Do you see anything that you can use for your essay?

Try just writing down everything that you remember from your own childhood and growing up, whether it be good or bad. Looking at all of these things in the same place may help you to formulate your own idea about the subject.
