Get five or 8 articles from good, scholarly journals, and read them. Enjoy them. You will form an opinion based on the articles, and you will write an intro with a thesis.

From there, you just have to write about what each author said -- each author whose article you cite.

It is a great exercise!!

I know from experience it's hard to decide what topic and subject to write about. However I learn to form ideas from reading books, articles, and newspapers! Basically I form my own opinions in my Essays by setting examples.

I would explore topics, Brainstorm what you like to write about from what Subject?

Depending on your Course, normally the instructor will give you topics to write about! Or if a topic is one of your own be sure that you get approval from your instructor before going on!

Your instructor will give you guidelines for your Essay. We do need more specific details in your assignment in order for us to help you out.

research, outline it in your head, brainstorm for a thesis, write it out, proofread it, and rewrite it to make it perfect.

I would first outline it. Outline the points you need. I usually start out with body paragraphs and then finish it up with intro and conclusion

My history teacher gave us an assignment this year that I found helpful. We had a huge paper due, but he guided us along the way. The first thing that we had due was an outline with a topic sentence for each paragraph. This helped to solidify the direction we wanted our papers to go and what points we would need to research further. We turned in a rough draft before the final was due as well. My final paper looked a lot different from the original outline with topic sentences, but it still helped to give me direction.

The best way to start writing a paper is to start writing it. It can be an outline, research notes, or even just random thoughts on the topic, but get something down on paper (or more likely the screen). Eventually this will lead you to some useful ideas, though you will have to prepared to go back and cut ruthlessly after you have finished a first draft.
