Essay for my undergrad elective - Empirical vs logical validity

studentoflife 1-2  Sep 19, 09, 11:08pm  #
I have to write an essay for my undergrad elective and I'm confused. We are given a list of essay questions to choose from which are in the form of "Present two views in support of... and two views against... Then, present your own informed view on their logical and empirical validity."

I'm not exactly sure what this means (i.e. logical vs empirical validity). If somebody can provide an explanation and possibly an example, that would be much appreciated.

Logical validity means, simply, that an argument makes logical sense.

Empirical validity means that there is some factual evidence in support of the argument.

So, "logical and empirical validity" is just a fancy way of saying "make sense and are supported by evidence."

Thank you so much. Now that's logical!
