essay about the nature of estrangement

the assignment is: "write an essay about the nature of estrangement, for better or for worse, using personal examples and analysis."

I have had to rewrite this paper five times and I keep doing it wrong. My problem is that i keep on making personal narratives and she wants an analysis. I am not good in English at all, I need someone to explain this assignment to me to where i understand what it is she wants from me. Where do I start?
