Characteristics of a good friend (which friend would you choose)

fearistheenemy 5-15  Jul 23, 09, 10:25pm  #
I am going to write on this topic: "Which friend would you choose: an intelligent friend, a friend with sense of humor, or a reliable friend. Give specific reasons and examples. "
I decided to choose a reliable friend, but I have difficulty in brainstorming. I think I have too few ideas:
- A reliable friend is someone we can tell secrets
- A reliable friend is someone who we can think of when needing help
- Be with this friend, we feel safe
That's what I have at this moment. Please help me to develop it. Thanks a lot.

is it an application essay? it seems to be a TOEFL essay T.T. Anyway, I will help you a hand but I guess it will be the last time to do a TOEFL essay in this forum.
About your idea, I think You should brainstorm the way like that what advantages a reliable friend could bring to you. For example, this friend could bring us the trusty: you could tell him whatever you want without being afriad that he will tell anyone. Thanks to that, you will feel more comfortable to be yourself when you're with him..then... Moreover, he's also the guy who can help us when we got trouble because he'll do best to help us. That's why we can aslo feel safe when you're doing with him. He's not only a friend but also a helpful co-worker. That's just my suggestion. You could try it

I think what the prompt asks you to do is not only identify the characteristics of the type of friend you could choose but also compare the importance of the characteristics of intelligence, humor, and reliability in friends.

You might also look at how these qualities are interrelated. A friend who isn't smart enough to understand what you ask of him or her isn't going to be very reliable, for instance. At the same time, you might which to define what is meant by "friend" to begin with. It may be that the concept itself includes one or more of the above characteristics, which might lead you to challenge the question.

A reliable friend is a good friend:
- A reliable friend is someone we can tell secrets (no idea)
- A reliable friend is someone who we can think of when needing help
( There is a renowne dquote: "A friend indeed is a friend in need". If you have difficulty, a reliable friend will help you overcome it. For examamle....)
- Be with this friend, we feel safe
+Because a reliable friend never leave you alone when you lost or sad.
+If you confide your secret to a reliable friends, he/she will help you overcome the difficulties or help you fight the bad feelings. They may tell you to cry on his/she shoulder.

You can talk about unreliable, fair-weather friends before delving into reliable friends, to make the impact more meaniningful and significant.

Unreliable friends..
1. Think that nonchalance is a choice, because to them it is always easier not to attempt to understand a plight of their 'friends'.
2. It just reflects on their interest in the friendship, and about the degree to which they actually care for the friendship on its own.
