'The novelist's imaginative entry into other minds can never obviate the fact that these minds are ultimately, his or her own creation.' (Laura Marcus)

Discuss point of view as a technique and as a theme in Atonement.

It's about free indirect discourse and briony getting into her other character's minds like Jane Austen's writings.

Key Words

Imaginative (entry into others minds, original), obviate the fact (can't avoid), his or her own creation ( design¸ formulated). Meanings taken from Thesaurus on Computer.

Required: convincing argument essay, giving evidence from the novel text and academic research, which takes into consideration Laura Marcus's statement. This essay needs to be presented in a series of paragraphs with an obvious topic sentence.

I'm not sure on how to handle this part of the requirement: which takes into consideration Laura Marcus's statement.
How do I slant it taking this into consideration.
Thanks

That depends on what "obviate" means, I guess!!
Okay, now that I googled the definition of that word, I guess she is saying the author cannot pretend that she is showing readers the inner workings of anyone's mind except her own! That is a cool idea.

So, how can you include it? How about mentioning it in the last sentence of at least 3 or 4 paragraphs in the essay. Whatever the paragraph is about, you can say something about how the quote is related to it.

It is a cool quote!

now google these terms: point of view, literary
and also: theme,literary

That might help! :-)

A paragraph topic sentence is a sentence at the beginning of the paragraph that gives the main idea of the paragraph.

You might have one body paragraph that starts with a sentence about how POV is used, and then you might have another para that starts with a sentence about the theme.

Does that help?
