Follow tutor advice (essay on Hamlet and Silas Marner)?

I am writing an English essay on Hamlet and Silas Marner.
I took a draft in to my university tutor yesterday, and he recommended that i do the first half of my essay on Hamlet, and the second half on Silas Marner, but i have always been taught, and indeed was told in the lecture just before this tutorial, that i should never do this, as it's like writing two essays and i cannot compare and contrast effectively. I was always taught that I should compare and contrast the two texts within a paragraph.

However, my tutor is marking my essay.
Do i follow my tutor's advice?
Thankyou

If he is grading you, then yes. Otherwise, no. i have been taught the same way as you, and i believe it is the better way to go about your paper. if he is the one who is giving your final grade, then do it. if not, why don't you ask whoever IS grading it?
