I'm doing a paper on Michael Halliday and how far his Child Language Taxonomy explains Child Language Acquisition. I'm focussing mainly on why children move between the stages he talks about and criticisms of his functional stages. However, I cant find any criticisms of his work or any research or ideas on whether certain things have to occur in a child's development before they can move from one stage to another. Can anyone help?

Greetings!
Properly-worded internet searches normally turn up information on even obscure topics, but I'd have to agree with you that the information you are looking for seems to be elusive. While information on Child Language Acquisition is available, criticism of Halliday appears not to be so. If you haven't already, enlist the help of your school librarian in finding databases that might be more useful to you. Failing that, all I can suggest is talking to your instructor to see if he or she has any suggestions.
If I can come up with anything more, I'll let you know!
Thanks,
