I have to write a research paper on grammar and I'm thinking of comparing standard American grammar to the grammar used in advertising - but I'm not sure how to do this. This is my first Master's class and I'm not sure how in-depth I need to be. Also I'm kind of stuck on how to word a proposal about this.

Can you help me out - I feel like I'm floundering a bit.

Thanks,

Greetings!

It's certainly an interesting topic, one I'd be interested to read about! Have you done any research on it yet? That might assist you in deciding how to approach it, and thence, how to word your thesis statement. Will you, for example, be taking a position on whether "advertising grammar" has corrupted standard grammar? Or is it merely a matter of exploring the differences? I would think that you would probably be expected to take a position with your thesis statement and then support it with your research, so you want to make sure that the materials are available to allow you find what you need.

As far as how in-depth you need to be, that's a little hard to answer without knowing more about the assignment. Of course, as it's part of a Master's program, it will be more in-depth than an undergrad paper, but the person who is best-qualified to answer this question is the professor who made the assignment.

This may not be specific enough advice to really help you. If you'd like to give me more information about the assignment, I might be able to be more specific.

Thanks,
